    I've got another stupid question...

I'm sitting here drinking some homebrew and I've got a pretty good buzz. Is it me, or does your homebrew give you a different kind of buzz than commercial beer? I'm sorry if I offend anyone out there, but I feel like I just smoked a joint. Normally I want to here loud music and smoke cigarettes (I quit four yeas ago and I still crave when I drink). All I want to do right now is eat and watch discovery channel. It just seems more relaxing than commercial beer. I can't be the only one that thinks this, can I?

I'm highly offended I tell you. Highly. First the loud music, then it's straight to heavy illicit drug use, smoking (gasp!), and of course the very worst most horrible thing anyone can do, ever, in the history of no matter what... HOMEBREWING. They're pure evil, I tell you. Next thing you know we'll all be barbequing the neighbor's kids for lunch while we're watching Rachel Maddow. :grimacing:

I tried to warn you all about the rock-and-roll, but nobody would listen. Now look what's happened.

You've got it all wrong! I would never stoop to watching Rachel Maddow!

I almost spewed beer all over my computer screen! Actually, I'm in love with Rachel. Too bad I'm not exactly her type.

Oh you never know. I was pretty damn sure I wasn't my wife's type...wouldn't have been a year or so before...

A lot of beer (a LOT) brought us together. And it stuck.

    Yay beer!

I dunno if it's a different buzz, but I know that my homebrew wheat beers give me a hellova morning after and pretty bad gas from the copious amounts of yeast.

I get me a nice buzz off mine too. I'm sure it has to be mental. the buzz does seem quite a bit more relaxing and we are sure brainwashing ourselves. It's quite the feeling to know your drinkin' what we made which could be what we reflect on. Oh yeah, what part of Florida are you in? That may play into this. haha. jk.

It's because the ethanol molecule in homebrew is slightly different from a normal one. One of the bonds is twisted in such a way that acid catalysts are unable to facilitate a conversion to esters, and thus homebrew has a higher ABV. Structurally, the changed part of the molecule looks like an anus of sorts, which rejects, or one might say expels, the acid. So as we can see, it takes a little bit of an asshole to make homebrew.

    Disclaimer: Not a true fact.

Dunno about the different "buzz" but I know hangovers are nonexistant since I started drinking straight homebrew. Nothing a cup of coffee and movement can't eliminate!

And sulfites! Or lack thereof in homemade beer and wine. I LOVE IT!!

While I've never consciously analyzed the buzz or the after-effect, I can say that the overall experience is definitely more gratifying with Homebrew. It's kind of like watching your kid accept his diploma versus watching a stranger's kid do the same thing.

While you're correct, I've never been a huge Red Stripe fan. Things were predicated by unreasonable amounts of PBR anyway. So I guess a more appropriate exclamation would have been whatever hipsters say when they're excited...so..."Yeah, I guess it's alright. It was better before though."

Beer is good. Marriage is good. I also have a crush on Rachel Maddow.

I haven't had a discernibly different buzz from homebrew, but at least so far, I've only drunk it exclusively once or twice (so far). Most the time when I'm drinking enough to get a buzz, it's a little of this-and-that.

And no, not drunk. Just don't feel like getting back to work...

Well I drink homebrew at home mostly, and there are things at home that aren't at the bars (yet). So yeah, it's a little different sometimes.

Edit: Sort of on topic - I think it's funny talking with people who are unfamiliar with home brewing and they ask a question like "so can it get you drunk like normal beer?"

I notice that homebrews I make using lots of candi sugar "hit me" harder than other homebrews of the same ABV that weren't made with candi sugar.
