So I recently tracked down the Beer Camp variety box. It is, from what i understand, a Summer brewed specialty box. It is now the end of Summer and it isnt as fresh now, but one of the last ones in my area had one and I grabbed it after a season's time worth of tracking it down.

...My first 'Beer Camp' box, but I was wondering if it perhaps was a bit soured. The IPA, Black IPA and the Imperial Red are all super strong, bitter and hoppy. Like... very. Almost too bitter. I was wondering if it was due to a bad batch or perhaps I waited too long. The box says it was bottled in July. And I can appreciate an intense IPA. But is it me in this instance??

Help me out with your experiences.

I've only had the Pils on tap, it was okay. Love your icon. Beer is Love.

Sierra hoppy beers generally lean toward the more bitter/astringent side of things. I highly doubt they're sour or infected, more likely you just don't care for their house flavor.

I just finally saw this for the first time yesterday. I was going to buy it but took it back to the cooler after I found out it was $23. How much is everyone else seeing this for?

I don't think the Belgian Black IPA is very bitter but the other two definitely are. I just finished off my pack that was bottled in July. They are fine still.

It's Sierra Nevada. These beers are all IPAish. What did you expect?

Bought it yesterday, tried all three. Thought they were all good. Wasn't sure I liked the Belgian Black IPA at first, but did ultimately end up enjoying it too. The regular IPA was just ok, and I really like the Imperial Red IPA. So to answer your question, what was your question? You didn't like the beers?

I love me some hops, but I just didn't think this year's pack was all that great.

Have I had better Black IPAs? Yes. Was I a little unimpressed with the IPA and Red Ale? Yeah. I got my hopes up a little too much for this Beer Camp (let me add that this was my first Beer Camp), but I wouldn't go as far as saying I regret buying it. I feel like it was an average one-off from SN.

I did the same thing, although I it was probably early August when I first saw it on shelves. I thought it was going to be a regular SN price ($13 to $14), but when it rang up at like $22 I brought it back and picked up Torpedo.

I'm in the same boat. Last year I blew through several of them, but this year it just didn't do it for me

i was lucky enough to buy a single of each of this year's. I enjoyed them all but am glad I could get the singles only. I would buy the Belgian black IPA again. I thought each was a decent take on the respective styles.

"Bad" beer can mean you don't like it or it can mean that the beer has actually spoiled.

if you are unsure if the beer you are drinking is spoiled, then it's just beer that you don't like.
your descriptions "super strong, bitter and hoppy" doesn't sound like a problem unless you don't like IPA's, IIPA's etc. don't buy those beers from now on.
    Cheers.

This is the first time I've seen a thread that was curious if 2 month old IPAs were too old because they tasted too hoppy.

Picked one of these up a couple of weeks ago ($21) and enjoyed it. The beers are all solid though not necessarily mind blowing. I found the Red IPA best in box, followed by the Black IPA (which grew on me after the first one), then the regular ol' IPA. I guess this fell a bit short of my admittedly high expectations but was by no means a disappointment. Had the hop taste I'd expect of an SN offering.

Had this last weekend ($19.99) and enjoy all of the beers. Black and red IPAs where great and the IPA was good. IMHO.

Based on the last one, I had really hopes for this, was a bit of a letdown. Really liked the IPA, kinda liked the Black & the Red was drinkable but not near as good as I hoped.

IPA was solid, so were the other 2 but I'm just not into black ipa's.
