Any breweries out there that just keep a low profile and not much fuss, but produce great beer?

I'm talking no/almost no tours, just brew beer and call it good.

Only one that is sort of like this that I know of is Moonlight.

I've heard good things about Forest and Main from a friend, though I've never been there.

I'm guessing there aren't too many like this. Brewing equipment ain't cheap and neither is the labor. Most people will agree that it's quite hard to run a business if no one knows your product exists. Certainly there are some breweries who like to keep a low profile (HF) but the beer speaks for itself... when it's THAT good, people will know about it

True. But on the other hand, it wasn't until recently that a lot of people were asking around about Grassroots for the past couple years.

I only mention moonlight because they have some great beer. Even on the top beers, or once did, but don't have a bar, and only get at a few pubs.

I hear there's this brewery called Westvleteren that tries to keep a low profile...

Brian is pretty friendly in my limited experience, but as a 1 to 1.5 person operation, he would have no time for tours.

several of the breweries in VA have a separate sight that they brew their beer and do not do tours. The public locations are pubs with rather tremendous food and a great supply of all of their stuff and merchandise.

I don't know about intentionally trying to keep a low profile, but I recently had a iipa from spiteful brewing that was kick ass. They're new, but not generating the same buzz as say, pipeworks.

Edit: creating a buzz amongst Chicago beer drinkers

Oliver Ales is fantastic, but since it's basically only MD and NoVa it's hard to find unless you live by the brewpub in Baltimore or Columbia, or go to Meridian Pint or Churchkey a lot.

Mad Fox in Va, well it's a brew pub. There are a LOT of breweries as you described. Ones that are fine, at least for now, just serving the local market.

Eh, rather the brewer get some more fans and the pubs get more business than protecting a few good deals for myself. Community and such.
