I have a six foot tall vintage cabinet. The top half has a glass door and three shelves which serve as a perfect display case for my glass collection. It's been there for two years. I've tested it's stability several times. No issues. Then, last Sunday night as I was winding down my weekend, my cats decided to have a fight on top of the cabinet. My confidence in the stability of the cabinet was clearly unfounded.

I'm not an avid collector, so most of my collection has been acquired over the course of several years. I lost 27 of 35 glasses in two seconds. It sucked. Bad.

The moral of the story? Don't be an idiot like me. If you have a freestanding glassware cabinet, make sure that shit is bolted to the wall. I'm off to Goodwill to procure some temporary glassware while I rebuild.

Hey man, that sucks bad! Worst nightmare come true. If you are interested, I can help you out with some replacements. If I see enough of the pieces correctly, I have a Sam Adams glass I rarely use, a Tripel Karmeliet glass available for trade and I can probably head to a local Dogfish Head Alehouse and grab you a snifter. Shoot me a BM if interested. Brutal man.

Thanks guys. I posted the story/pics because I knew BAs would understand my pain more than anyone. I didn't expect the replacement offers, but I guess that's the generous nature of BAs.

    What I lost:
    Ale Apothecary teardrops (2)
New Belgium globes (2) - these were about 6 years old and had the round bike logo on them.
    Hair of the Dog tulip
Crux Fermentation Project tulip/snifter hybrid thingy
    Elysian Great Pumpkin tulip/snifter hybrid
    Tripel Karmeliet oversize tulip
    Russian River "-tion" wine glass
    Bailey's Taproom 4th Anniversary snifter
    St. Bernardus oversized chalice
    Double Mountain imperial pint
    Belmont Station imperial pint
    Widmer Brothers imperial pint
    SNPA imperial pint
    Three Floyds "Alpha King" nonic
Dogfish Head pint (not sure what the style is called -- kind of like a pregnant stange w/very thick bottom)
    Sam Adams perfect pint
    Goose Island shaker
    Hopworks Urban Brewery shakers (2)
    Summit hefeweizen glass
    Lagunitas mason jar
    FOBAB 2009 mini shaker pint
Saraveza 3rd Annual IIPA Fest stange
Portland Farmhouse & Wile Ale Fest teardrop
    vintage PBR schooner

I could pretty easily replace most of those, but I'll probably just start anew, save for a few exceptions. I'll definitely replace the HotD tulip (my favorite glass) when I'm in Portland this weekend & hopefully I'll be able to get the Ale Apothecary teardrops on my next trip to Bend. I had 3 of the FFF Alpha King nonics, and somehow 2 survived, so that was a sliver lining. I'll definitely miss the FOBAB 2009 glass. I liked to take that to bottle shares. Plus, it reminded me of what is still the best beer festival I've ever been to. Oh well.

All I can keep thinking is that you missed out on making an AMAZING youtube cat video there.

My kitty would hide under the bed for about a month if he pulled something like that and probably never look at me again, lol.

Bolting to the wall is good advice, especially on the west coast. Earthquake wax (also called museum wax) is a must also for glasses that are just for display. Bummer, dude! How did the cats turn out?

One of the cats disappeared for about 3 hours. He must've found an unknown corner/crevice in the basement, because he was covered in dirt when he reappeared. I didn't see the other one until the next morning. They were fine otherwise, which is good since a vet bill would've just been the icing on the cake.
