So today I was at a brewpub (Framingham Beerworks) and ordered a beer called "Black O Lantern," described as "a deep, dark, rich Imperial Stout with Pumpkin and spice for the fall season." The server said "that one's coming out a little brown right now, is that OK?" Strange. I agreed to that, whatever it meant, more concerned about making sure she got my request for no cinnamon sugar rim on the glass. Then I saw her pour it: two thirds from one tap, a brown ale, and then topped off from a second tap, their Irish Stout. I asked her what was up with the pour from two different taps, and she said "oh, we don't have that beer on tap right now, but this blend tastes exactly the same."

    W. T. F?

Let me say that again: W. T. F?

Anyway, I wanted to post but I've decided against asking how you think I should have handled this situation. Instead, I thought it would be a good opportunity to ask for you to share your own beer WTF moments. Can any of you top this?

LOL no but I would have told her to take the beer and dump it, then got up and left.

Shenanigans. She should've checked to make sure you were cool with it first before trying to pull a fast one on you.

One time I ordered a Guinness at a chain restaurant and they brought me a cider. I guess the waitress and bartender had no idea what either was suppose to look like.

Shit, someone's onto the Illuminati, and they've discovered how all big beers are really made.

BCBS is just a regular stout with both antifreeze and jack daniels added.
BCBCS is just the above with a Dunkin Donuts Medium Regular spooned in.
Brandy-aged Hunahpu is just regular Huna with a shot of Courvoisier stirred in before bottling.
    And Voodoo Doughnut? That's PEOPLE.

Geez- I never had anything happen that even remotely compares. I've been served bad beers (diacetyl, or whatever) but nothing that has ever been intentional on the part of the bartender.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, I once ordered a pint (in a brewpub in CT that no longer exists, unfortunately) and was given a sampler glass <in advance> of the full pint. That was a 'wtf' in the best sense, I suppose. I did like the beer and drank a few after 'approving' the sampler, but still remember that moment. I dunno, maybe a lot of their customers turned back their orders upon receiving them? The policy didn't help them in the long run, though, but it was kinda cool being given a sample even if I didn't ask for one.

I've had wrong beers poured, but I don't think they were done intentionally. And when I pointed it out, the correct beer was given to me, and the wrong normally left in place.
I've had Beerworks brews, they are generally fair to decent... though not Framingham. WHen I'm looking for a Brewpub in that area, I'll go to John Harvards any day of the week.

I would imagine that had you not seen this tap shenanigans you would have noticed a distinct lack of pumpkin and spice in their "pumpkin spiced ale". No wonder they're offering the spice rimmer.

    Really ridiculous.

When my favorite local back home (where I grew up) began really, really getting into craft, they didn't really take into consideration the strength of their various beers...all beers were served in 20 oz. imperial pints. Even the 13.6% abv. Double Crooked Tree. Since we had a DD, that was a very. good. night.

Come to think of it, that wasn't a brewpub; it was just a favorite local. As far as a WTF BREWPUB moment, I'd have to go with having a bit of attitude and not providing top-notch service, even when it's like 1-2 in the afternoon, there's NO ONE in the pub, and you're their lead waiter. I really wanted to tip the guy well, but it was really, really hard.

I think if that had happened to me I would have assumed Ashton Kutcher, wearing a trucker hat, was only minutes from jumping out at me.

I also would have told her to pour me a different beer.

Honestly I'd have told the manager or better yet the head brewer what happened, and let them decide it it's time to let that young lady go. No way anyone in charge told her to do that. Thanks for sharing the story!

One time, my dad who is up for any beer ordered a miller lite on tap and the bartender handed him a bottle... He said excuse me, I wanted one on tap. She took the bottle and poured it into a glass. Not as funny but still funny. Great story OP.

I don't have anything that even compares to that.

I did go into a new brew pub in my old home town and didn't find out that they brewed nearly everything with Brett until I tried, well, almost everything. It was odd enough to warrant a heads up of some sort, in my opinion.

    They taste exactly the same.
