I've only had a few of them.. but thus far, DFH has yet to disappoint me. This was the first brown ale that I really liked, and thus made me willing to try others. Enjoy!

Two new ones for me tonight and they're both great (especially the Laika, what a killer Imperial Russian Stout and worthy of the rating!) - thanks richj1970!

Just finishing some notes on Stillwater's Why Can't IBU from a bottle; I've had it (and reviewed it) on tap, but this is the first I've had it from the bottle.

Long story short, it's better (I think) from the bottle.

Dogfish 61 - IPA brewed with syrah must

A - Pours a clear reddish orange, a pretty color, not weird at all. Rich head with great retention and lacing. Like a dark amber beer with a few drops of syrah in it.

Smell - A churchlike incense and hop floral aroma. Rich, nectar, fruit, blood orange, grapefruit, plus esters. Plenty of complexity and variation here. Interesting, original, and great with cheese.

Taste - Follows the smell, a woody, church pew, incense, floral, with mildly hoppy IPA mixed with wine. A complex and fully integrated fruit beer (that I like) compared with fruit-added beers, that I dont! So the wine must is integrated with the malt & hops as a 3rd equal component, this is an accomplishment! It works the same way a great pumpkin beer works (like Elysian or Smutty Nose or Wolaver).

Mouthfeel - A bit light. As in a wine spritzer. A clean finish. Slightly sweet.

Overall - way better than any fruit beer, and as good as the best of pumpkin beers, but the grape must is much more interesting and inviting. Lighter and a nice change of pace. Must try. Suited more to summer, fall, and warm weather. Bravo!
