Its off the line and into the wax, Sierra Nevada ready to release a Black IPA! They decided to use organic malts and Estate grown wet hops. Not backing down from a failed crop Sierra Nevada makes a black beaut featuring citrus/earthy flavors a medium body and a mild roast quality.

This will certainyl be a nice change of pace. I'll be keeping an eye out for it as it approaches VA.

I'll be on the lookout for this one. Anything from SN is almost guaranteed to be good.

Yes lots of Black IPA's in market but a Wet Hop Black IPA is pretty unique...

Yeah, I agree - I don't quite get the whole black IPA craze and generally avoid them - but I am curious to see what Sierra Nevada comes out with - maybe the wet hop aspect will make it a cut above the rest?

Gonna miss Estate this year but this does sound like it could be a winner

Maybe it's just me, but I think the fact that they're waxing it is odd. Typically, when I come across a waxed beer, it's some sort of barrel aged or malt forward beer that's going to age well, so I've just associated waxing with aging which you obviously can't do with an IPA.

This isn't a diversion from normal Estate though. Isn't that waxed as well? Can't remember. Thought it had green wax last year.

There is a brewery here in SoCal called Aftershock and they wax every single beer they bottle regardless of style or aging potential.

I believe you are correct. I moved some of my empties last weekend and I believe I saw an Estate bottle covered in green wax. Don't take this personally - but I find it ironic how some people claim to remember what the beer tasted like last year but not how it was packaged.

Not saying I wouldn't want to try it, as I enjoy SN beers, but my speculation is that the wet hop aspect won't cut through the malt.

Their Blindfold Black IPA was good so this shouldn't be any different. Looking forward to this.

There are these things called "taps" that beer comes out of without packaging.

Meh. Not a fan of black IPAs. Waste of perfectly good wet hops if you asked me.
