I heard a rumor at Fremont Brewing today that the release of KDS has been delayed due to a last minute relabeling.
Maybe a copyright dispute with KBS? or ?? Pure speculation. Maybe I should just keep my mouth shut if I don't know what I'm talking about.

Why be quiet? All you're doing is trying to help the brewery by building hype. Then we can all get our sleeping bags out and pretend we're actually FIB's.

I really don't know how to respond. Serious or sarcastic.

    Thanks, FIBs.

No conflict with KBS. The Founders guys were in last week and laughed at the fact that we were still using "Kentucky" which is illegal unless you're producing in the state...thus why Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout became KBS. They wished us luck...but I know the Feds can't be ignored forever, so this year we changed the name to "Bourbon-Barrel Aged Dark Star" BBADS...Not as cool but legal, finally. KDS is still alive but only as an abbreviation, and a good story...and, by the way, Founders rocks.

Even if we don't have rare beer, at least we have outlaw beer here in the backwaters of the west coast. I can live with that.

Well that sucks. You guys didn't want to go with only the abbreviation on the label? KDS really is cooler.

I disagree. Words have power. After all, they're not selling KFC over there at the UBG. Also, keep in mind the fancy script on the label. Given the legal restraints, I think Bourbon Dark Star would have been an elegant choice.
Whatever the name, I'll drink the shit out of it.

    Oh Dan...

Funny that the longest line anyone has to wait in to get some delicious Fremont beer is 1 person

Kudos to Founders for being civilized and not getting anal over some obscure similarity in names  I like them even more.
Looking forward to BBADS - by any name it's still delicious.

Actually they wouldn't be able to name it that either. Having Bourbon in the label without Barrel Aged also goes against naming rules as there isn't any bourbon in it. Weyerbacher had that problem when they wanted to name something Whiskey.

To go slightly off-track, I was at a beer event the other night, and went to add a beer to my Untappd. The rep from the brewery was sitting right next to me, and I pointed out that there were at least 4 beers with that name, and 1 brewery that used the name. He laughed and said, "well, there's only so many words". The group of brewers and reps we were in agreed, it's getting pretty silly. So, fuck off Coronado.

I'm starting to understand why beers have some of the ridiculous names they do.

hah, very true. The best is they ended up name it "Whiskey Barrel Aged: A barrel aged beer" or something close to that. A lot of eyebrows were raised. It can be even worse when you deal with recipe approval and descriptions I think. I know Modern Times down in San Diego had some issues with that.

edit: This naming issue is also why it's Bourbon County Brand Stout and not just Bourbon County Stout. They changed it back in like 2007 or something like that since they aren't in Bourbon County.
