I mentioned it in the What are you drinking now thread...I'm taking a Ferris Bueller day off today. I called sick into work with "digestive distress." You know...projectile vomit, come to Jesus cramps...screamers, if you will. Nobody questions that stuff. And for reference, I'm experiencing none of the above, but after working overtime and through every holiday I can remember, I felt like I deserved it.

So a whole Friday off. In the house by myself. It's cold, rainy, high of 38 degrees. Been in jammies all day. Books, movies, internets, blankets, homemade chili, chocolate, snuggling with the pup, a couple brisk autumn walks with the pup along the river under yellow trees.

It being a day of indulgence, I cracked my first beer right after noon, a New Belgium Pumpkick. I can count on one hand how many times I've done that. Again, being a day of indulgence, I had another. When I went back for my *ahem* third beer before 2pm, all I saw in the fridge were stouts, porters, barrel-aged, a Belgian quad, and more Pumpkicks. It all looked so...heavy and dark and Fall-ish.

Now don't get me wrong, I love stouts and porters and strong Belgians. I know opinions vary, but I love pumpkin beers. I'm one of those girls that bakes just about everything I see on Pinterest if it involves pumpkin. But NONE of these beers sound even slightly appealing to me. So I'm drinking a Ranger IPA that I found in the back of the fridge from one of our camping trips this Summer. The hops have fallen off a bit, but it's hoppy and refreshing and delicious.

I guess I'm just a Summer person. I get cold when it's 70 degrees out and I sit under a special fake-sun lamp when the days are short. I'm not ready for Fall and Winter and their dark beers!

And before everyone gets the pleasure of saying it first....First World Problems!

Anyone else having a hard time transitioning from Summer to Fall beers? Or just Summer to Fall in general?

Not at all. I can find Summer type beers all year round. It is much harder to find a great stout or pumpkin beer in the Summer, excluding the fact that some pumpkin beers get released in July now. Plus, I feel the same way about Summer that you do about Fall and Winter. There's nothing like a good Fall beer on a crisp Autumn day, with great Fall foliage.

Wish we called it fall instead of autumn it's a much cooler descriptor

The opposite for me. I've been looking forward to fall since the end of July. The best special releases start up and get better each month. Where I live we have at least a month left of 60 degree days. Probably the best time of year for brewing outdoors. And Sundays filled with good beer and football. I love this time of year.

Technically, it is Autumn. Especially with the fact that you mentioned in the wbaydn thread that it snowed in wyoming. Sounds like you should be ready for winter ....right?

Sorry, but fall is my favorite time of year bringing some of my favorite beers along with it. I hope nobody at your work knows you on BA, lol!

Sadly, I'm so institutionalised by early seasonal releases that I'm ready for Winter beers.

See, I'm a huge Summer person normally, but as I sit here sprinting through my stout reserves I've been saving up for a while, frankly I'm quite content raising a glass and tipping my hat to the start of Fall in Virginia. Maybe I'm getting soft as the years go by.

I had some Hoffbrau Oktoberfest last week, and I think it turned on my Fall switch. I can't get enough of that one.

I've been switching off between that and the Weihenstephaner for festbiers this year. Usually I mix it up more but I've got Wies'n Fever.

Bought a mini keg of Hofbrau the other week and man was I happy with that decision.

It was only a few weeks ago when I could sit outside late into the night and feel comfortable. Now it's cold, rainy and miserable, and we're unlikely to get a decent sunny day until spring, i.e may, around here. As far as I am concerned though every season is pilsner season, no need to feel shackled by the darker seasonal options. Throwing one or two into the mix every once in a while is fine, but cold weather romanticism is for people living in warmer climates I feel :stuck_out_tongue: .

Wies'n Fever, there ain't no kind of cure for my disease"

...except more, of course. I will surely miss the pale Festbiers when they're gone; I'm enjoying them more than the ambers these last few years. Thank goodness Hoffbrau is plentiful!

Rock Art Imperial Pumpkin Spruce Stout. You might have to trade for it as I don't know if Rock Art distributes to South Carolina.
