Not sure about the pumpkins origins, but Upslope posted a video to Instagram showing them preparing pumpkins for brew by some mixing process. They looked thick and pulpy and very much like real pumpkins. I'll be in Boulder next month and can ask.

Rock Art Pumpkin Imperial Spruce Stout has all fresh pumpkin from a local farm. It also has organic spruce tips and molasses. And thank the heavens, no allspice. I have both fresh and aged (from last year, very tasty) bombers I would be more than willing to trade.

If you can get a hold of Fisherman's Imperial Pumpkin Stout, give it a try. It's the first and only pumpkin stout I've had and it was delicious.

Almanac Heirloom Pumpkin Barelywine and a 93 on BA

50% ale brewed with pumpkins aged in brandy barrels
    50% ale brewed with spices

This is a beer made with real pumpkins. We hand-roasted over 500lbs of heirloom pumpkins from La Tercera Farms in Bodega Bay. The caramelized gourds were then added to our velvety American Barleywine and aged in brandy barrels for a year. Finally, we blended the barrel-aged beer with freshly brewed ale and added a delicate hint of pumpkin pie spices to round out this decadent autumn sipper.

Rogue Farms - First Growth Pumpkin Patch Ale...I know this was already said, but it is AMAZING. By far, my favorite pumpkin brew. It could be in my head, but I feel like I can taste the difference between the canned and processed pumpkin beers vs. this.

Everything adds flavor. It might not be extremely noticeable, but pumpkin adds flavor. Eat a piece of raw pumpkin and tell me it doesn't have a distinctive taste.

Heirloom tomato/summer squash/zucchini brew for august/ september. Pumpkin needs a little more time. Probably shouldn't appear on shelves prior to end of October at the earliest. But that ain't the logic of most production lines...

I had the exact same thought. I always for some reason assumed Pumking was a stout. My friend sent me my first Pumking couple weeks ago, and the first thing I murmured was, "wow, it's not a stout." I also assumed there would be a more prominent pumpkin profile, but it was dominated by spices. It was good, just not what I expected. I'll try of some of the ones listed above.

Mash with pumpkin, boil for 90 min, add some hops and yeast....this won't taste like raw pumpkin.

FWIW, mashing with squash will extract sugars and give you body...you wont get much taste unless you add it after primary fermentation.

What? Frozen steak has an off texture. You are incorrect about steak, good sir. You're spot on about pumpkins however!

It's been low 90's and some high 80's here in central OK for several weeks now. Compared to summers past, this feels like autumn! Hell yeah, bring on the Marzens and cool weather beers! I'm ready. No Impy stouts just yet, tho'.

Nope. Fall (or Autumn) is my favorite season. I can't wait every year. I'm not a big stout drinker, so we'll see what happens on that front this year.

that's what they say, but I don't really think they add ANYTHING. Do you think adding a cucumber or a squash would really add flavor or body?

    ...best use the spices.

I finished my last Naragansett Summer Ale Thursday. This weekend I will finish my last 6 pack of Goose Island Summertime and 16 bottles of Southampton Keller Pils. Sunday I close my pool and it is the last day of the the regular season for the MLB. So Monday to me marks the beginning of Autumn. I have 4 cases of Naragansett Fest and 2 cases of Goose Island Oktoberfest to work through in October. On November 1st I will switch to Bitters, Brown Ales and Porters.

Have you tried Fat Jack by Sam Adams? No chocolate, but you might like it.
