Good morning revelers of real ale and partakers of pilsners! I hope this message finds you ready for another Sunday of all things good, fermented, malty or hoppy in your nonics, snifters, and tulips today!

Weather in Central OH is a full-on assault of fall. Mild days and cool nights seem to be on repeat and that's just fine with me.

In addition to NBS today just happens to be my 40th birthday. I plan on celebrating with some fine new brews later today. Had a nice dinner out with my bride last night which included a quesadilla bigger than my head and Yeti on tap. Not new to me but a very nice pairing.

Enough of the personal stuff and on to the weekly celebration that is NBS. Today is the day and this is the thread to post when you have TRIED a new beer. Please post your new beer with at least a good description of what you sampled. Feel free to tickle our senses with a linked review, pic, and/or video to add to the mystery and tradition of our weekly offering. Some might call these rules or guidelines. It's simply a way to ensure the fine tradition of this thread and ensure it's survival for another 449 weeks. If there is any question about the guidelines of this forum, sit back, watch the postings, and wait to see how the regulars do it. Or, feel free to go back and view any of the 448 weeks of tasty NBS offerings.

Thanks for keeping NBS fresh, informative, and fun. Good day and good drinkin'.

    Peace, love, and malty-ness,

    Matt

Awesome. Got such a great beer to report today.

Great frickin' weather this past week, ...and today. From WBAYDN #344:
Cool, but not chilly; slight breeze; not dry but not humid either. Perfectly comfortable cool weather.

Captain Lawrence Brewing's Rosso e Marrone - if you can't make it out, "Ale Fermented with Grapes & Aged in Oak Barrels."

This was "big deal" buy as this "12.7 FL OZ" bottle cost ~$21.00.
Went with an oversized wine glass for what I anticipated being a wine-like drinking experience.

This beer has been mentioned to me a few times by my "regular guys" at my regular beer stores.
My only other Flanders Oud Bruin was Petrus Aged Pale, and I was not ready. It was a drain pour :grimacing:. I know.
I will buy it the next time I see it now though. I have had two periods of major beer palate evolution, and I'm ready now. Takes time sometimes, but its gonna be awesome...
    Anyway... totally worth it.

As a regular buy, no. Too expensive.
But, is it the kinda beer you just haveta try (assuming you're ready for a sour-ish, wine hybrid-tasting ale)?
Yes. Perhaps a special occasion beer, but absolutely masterful.

Looking forward to a lot of my football picks failing today (sarcastic). Thankful for good beer! (genuine!)
Still in play: the rest of my breakfast Yuzu Pale; another new beer, Barrel-Aged Unearthly DIPA (or something like that); and some Imperial Biscotti Break for a closer...

I wouldn't mind seeing the Jets, Giants, and Steelers pull off wins today, even though that conflicts with some of my picks...

    We'll see.
    See you later.

    P.S. Happy birthday, Matt! :grinning:

Hi everyone! And Happy birthday to Matt and happy new beer sunday to everyone.

First let me say I am a tad disappointed in the beer I chose for today. I decided to break the mold and have a pilsner before lunch and I think it was old. I struggled with the review. I am thinking that I got another old beer from the imports section this week as my drinking experience was a bit different from the rest of the folks. This one did have a date code and it wasn't in regular date from so I just bought it and took a chance. I would say don't let my review influence you. Try this beer. I am going to go get some ayinger from the corner store and hope that is better. be back soon.

    New (Black) English Mild Sunday

Greetings NBSer's and Happy 40th birthday to our gracious host, Matt.

Our abundantly good Sept. weather continues today with projected highs in the 70's. Just lots of busyness in store including entertaining my grandchild. I may suffer through parts of games from London.

Today I'm partaking in a mild from a small brewery making a go of it. Their beers have, so far, been drinkable and this one fits that bill. A nice easy drinking mild, that offers good complexity and enjoyable flavors.

    Best to all this week.

New beer number two today, and number 497(!) for me overall...

    Southern Tier's Oak Aged Unearthly
    [IMG]
Gotta confess, never had the (regular) Unearthly...
But this was real good stuff, as DIPA's go...
The oak barrel-aging does exactly what you'd think it does...
Rich and malty, strong hops barking, but "sophisticated" by the airs of barrel oak.
    The details, per the label:

    Somehow, appropriately...

Go full-screen, high def (720), and kill the annotations and close the stupid pop-up that pops up, and enjoy - cool vid....

    Peace!

Super Saison Sunday to all my fellow BA's! I hope you are all having a fantastic weekend. I have been very busy, but found some time to open this bottle of PA Merica that a BA sent to me. It is quite good (tangy, funky, spicy), along with the mild 70 degree weather today. I am about to make some chili for a cook off at work. Yes, I will be adding beer to the chili! I may have another new beer later this evening. Cheers!

Hmm...this one was a miss for me. Nothing "imperial" about it for sure. I've heard good things about Rivertown but this offering just misses the mark for me. I'm going to keep trying today until I find one I like. Cheers and Happy NBS.

Thanks for all the birthday offerings. I normally don't share that kind of stuff but NBS and a birthday is a combo worth celebrating.

Oh...the quesadilla had to have been 8 pounds...three different kinds of meats, loads of veggies, three cheeses...I'm not sure if that's as big as my head but you get the idea....

Good afternoon BA! It's hard to believe tomorrow is the last day of September, this month has just flown by. It was quite foggy when I woke up this morning but now it's bright and sunny without a cloud in the sky here in southern Maine.

I purchased several beers that I'd never had before on Thursday and Friday so I had a tough time choosing one for NBS, but I've been hearing nothing but good things about Victory Dirtwolf since its release and we've gotta consume those hops while they're fresh.

This is one juicy DIPA. The aroma and flavor is heavy on the citrus notes, slightly piney. Nicely balanced, not too bitter, and very easy to drink. This one is a very deceptive 8.7 % as the alcohol isn't noticeable to me at all, and I could easily see myself blowing through the entire 4-pack if I didn't know any better. This beer is a huge victory for Victory.

So I ran out and grabbed another beer and I am glad I did. I don't know about everyone else but when my beer for the day is less than great I feel I have to go and get one that is great. So I picked some Ayinger Urweisse. I love their beers and so far, knock on wood, in any season they have been terrific.

Why is it that I always use my pilsner glass and my hefeweizen glass on the same day?

    NEW ALTBIER SUNDAY

Happy birthday Matt and greetings all. Six hours of satisfying yard work today while the family is away made me thirsty. I reached for an altbier for the second week in a row. This one didn't quite measure up, unfortunately.

New American Pale Ale Sunday (week 449)

    Greetings NBSers, Happy Bday Matt!

Worked this morning and did a yeoman's job of rescuing recyclable materials from landfills and sending energy producing trash to those who would produce that energy. Thirsty work, my friends. Luckily that thirst quenching friend of man, one of the three things that enabled civilization, is on the job, and I am not now so thirsty as I was.

Thanks once more, for another taste treat from the PNW, to the friend I've never met, and who will remain anonymous in this thread. Just toasted you, my friend. And here also to the NBS crew, those who enjoy the wonderful idea of enjoying and really thinking about a new beer every Sunday. The crew is growing again it is nice to notice, though not surprisingly, and here is is a toast to y'all. Hope you also can raise a glass of Great American Beer. Cheers!

New American Amber / Red Ale Sunday

Greetings NBSers and Happy Birthday, Matt !!!

An absolutely beautiful day in the greater St. Louis region. After some early morning showers pushed off, we have had beautiful sunshine and very pleasant temps. Looking forward to getting back on the deck shortly and grilling some dinner for the family and enjoying a nice cigar.

Was happy I found this one at the bottle shop this week - SN Flipside Red. At first I was skeptical, the more I imbibed, the more I liked it!
