Can't believe this but I think I just rediscovered stouts after decades of IPAS. Next up is Boris the frog oatmeal and maybe surely abrasive if I can get it. Any vanilla stouts? I'm not at Porter stage yet. I think porters are more dark and malty than stouts if I'm not mistaken. I like the attitude of stouts though.

Surly Abrasive is a DIPA. You were probably thinking of Surly Darkness. Either way, you should really try to get both.

Yeah breakfast stout is the way to go also smoking wood is real nice with bacon or sausage really compliments it.

Thanks, I don't get surly here. So furious is the ipa and furious is a double then? I got the impression furious was a stout. Either way I'm getting my hand on some surly soon.

U guys are giving me the impression that breakfast is as good as it gets, which is disappointing. No vanilla stouts?

Founders Breakfast Stout is far and away the best choice, but another great option is Lagunitas Cappuccino Stout.

FBS is an obvious (and excellent choice). Would agree with IBB too, although may be a bit high on the ABV for me for that time of day.

As an aside. Last time I was in VT, we drank Abner at breakfast. Really hit the spot.

To play devil's advocate perhaps, I find fruit lambics go very well with breakfast, and they don't have to be overly sweet. Otherwise oatmeal stouts for sure.

How about some nice oatmeal stouts. Samuel Smiths is a good one that is probably accessible.

New Glarus Wild Sour Ale is great for breakfast on a warm summer morning. I do like FIS on a winter morning.

BORIS is an awesome next step, if you feel like spending $$$ I would buy the BA-BORIS too and do a side by side, that would quickly get you interested in all the BA stouts you've been missing out on the last 10 years. Also, the biggest difference between a stout and a porter is the name, don't be scared.

Had hopsecutioner ipa last month. I did not expect a grocery store IPA to be so juicy and delicious. I was impressed.
