Aged burton baton 2 yrs. it changed drastically after that it seems ruined may just be my taste, back to fresh if its hoppy . Any one else aged any thin too long? Only thing I will age freon now on is 120. Also has anyone had any luck with gains stouts? How long should you age stouts?

He aged Dog Fish Head's Burton Baton too long.

Burton baton is an oak aged IPA, which is probably why he thought aging would be a good idea.

He aged it two years which seems to have ruined the flavor for him, because all the hop flavor is gone.

He will now only age Dog Fish Heads 120 minute IIPA, probably because it's so malty.

Your guess is as good as mine when it comes to "gains stout" (wtf is a gains stout?).

Now he's asking if stouts age well.

I also think he's going to put the 120 in some sort of cryogenic chamber.

You should age all of your beers longer than you currently. You seem to be consuming them much to quickly.

Well, even if it was aged too long it still seems to pack a punch. And isn't it actually a blend of old ale and IIPA? Half of it screams age me.

Didn't like that beer fresh, probably wouldn't like it with two years on it.

    Two words: proofread.

Age them until they're older than you are. (Have someone dig up your corpse on Halloween years later and let you taste all your stouts.):grinning:

Burton ages very similar to Dark Horse Double Crooked Tree. I did a vertical of a 3, 2, and 1 year and they were all incredible, in my taste better than fresh. Very fews beers have shown me otherwise. In other news, this dude needs help with forming complete and coherent sentences before consuming more aged Burton.

    "Gains" stout = "Giant" stout?

Burton's already aged - kind of. It's not super-hoppy, anyway. I've aged it for a year and thought it was fantastic. Like most of DFH's IPAs, it's got a noticeable malt presence. After a year, that was amplified. It was a sweet, jammy and robust. That said, I also love it fresh and two years might be a bit long (haven't tried it). But anyone expecting a true DIPA 'experience' (for lack of a better word), will probably be disappointed, or at least confused.

Yeah I've always had my Burtons fresh. Guess I should tuck a bottle away for a year and see what all the fuss is about. Cant imagine there would be any hops left after a year. 2? Seems extreme.

I haven't had it (fresh or otherwise) in quite a while. Time to find some!

I've never heard of aging with freon. Sounds cool.
