Will be visiting related to work trip. Will have Monday free and perhaps Wednesday evening.

Will plan on hitting Freetail for a look-see.

Other recommendations from someone who has never been?

Will be staying down by the Riverwalk.

    Freetail x 100000000.

Try some 5 Stones & Branchline while you're down there as well. They're both killing it as well.

I also hear great things about The Granary... and Monday is $3 beer night at the Flying Saucer (my old haunt down there), which is great for trying locals.

The biggest question is well you have transportation?

Friendly Spot for sure. There are plenty of people who are not fans because the DO overcharge on the harder to come by stuff, but they have a great selection and knowledgable staff. Also within walking distance of downtown or a very short cab ride. I like to hit Friendly Spot for a beer or two then walk over to La Frite, a little Belgian bestro, for top notch food and a small Belgian beer selection.

You have the right to do so, or not do so as the case may be

We at Branchline would love to have you over Monday. Our open hours are Thursdays and Fridays from 4-10, but you are more than welcome to stop by on Monday. The guys will be there brewing, but are more than happy to take a break and talk beer. We have 7 or 8 beers on the tap wall right now.

Also, definitely hit up freetail for lunch or dinner. You won't regret it!

Both 5 Stones & Branchline look like interesting stops. Will have to look for more info on them.

    Thanks for the leads all!

A car helps since Freetail is about a 30 minute drive, depending on traffic, from downtown. But well worth the trip.

If your looking for bottles, I suggest the Alon HEB. Others will mention Specs(not sure which one is best) or Gabriel's on 1604. I don't care for Gabriel's, but they have a big selection and are a stone's throw away from Freetail.

Thanks for the intel on bottles. I'll be able to take a few back with in checked luggage and will want to pack out with some locals.

If it helps feed the hate, a Podunkian hole in the wall store got cases of the offending Bishops Barrel 3. Sold them for $5 a bottle.

Most people will suggest Specs or Gabriel's. You can also try Central Market. They have a decent selection and are located a few minutes from downtown.

Luke on Houston/Main has a decent beer selection. Nothing spectacular, but some Texas stuff. The Cove is just outside of downtown and they have a decent beer selection as well. Otherwise, Flying Saucer, Big Hops Growlers, World of Beer. Bottles....I like Gabriel's, Specs DeZavala and Central Market. The bigger HEBs like Alon, Evans/281, Blanco/1604 and Bandera tend to have a nice selection too.

I tried Flower Child from 5 Stones earlier this week. Freakin awful. I hope their other offerings are better.

I didn't like Flower Child either. I've enjoyed their other offerings though.

Ranger creek batch 6 was my fist sour. It left me nervous about the genre. Maybe it was just a bad bottle.
