I recently got to Gunpowder Falls, which is a craft brewery that only produces lagers. Are there other craft breweries out there that only make lagers?

The brewer/owner's last name (& his wife's maiden name): http://heaterallen.com/about/. They make some of the best German-style lagers I've had...

Brews wheat beers, so not a lager only brewery, though a German-style brewery for the most part.

We have a brewery right outside of Spokane called Orlison that does lagers only. Some real good ones too.

Lager-only breweries are really hard to find in reality.

Thanks for your post. This is the first time I have heard of this brewery; it appears that their two principle beers are a German Pilsner and Dunkel. What did you think of the beers? They will have some tough competition from the SEPA breweries who make high quality German style beers: Sly Fox, Victory, Stoudt’s, Neshaminy Creek, etc.

Gunpowder Falls seems to have an interesting story:

    “Authentic German Craft Beer

Gunpowder Falls Brewing is an American-German craft brewery located in the rolling farm lands at the very southern part of central Pennsylvania in the town of New Freedom. Gunpowder Falls Brewing is dedicated to brewing true authentic German style lagers. We use the same pure natural ingredients and brewing techniques forged by the top German Braumeister's for hundreds of years. While most American craft breweries these days are creating wild and adventurous Ales and IPA's, we at Gunpowder Falls are interested in simply brewing high quality, fresh, smooth and easy to drink, traditional German style lagers. Our beers are brewed according to the Reinheitsgebot (German Purity Lawy of 1516). German's and their European neighbours have been enjoying beers like this for centuries and we think you'll enjoy them too. Prost!”

It would be nice if they expanded their product line to also make some top fermented German style beers like Kolsch and Alt.

    Cheers!

I suppose I should have said lager-centric, or something along those lines.

I'll be cracking open the dunkel later tonight, but the pils was pretty good. And 6-packs for $8.50 are a steal.

though top fermented, Kolsch and alt are both lagered after fermentation.

    from metro's website...
"We are a production microbrewery, proudly located in Chicago, IL. German-style lagers are our focus, our dedication, and our inspiration."

The head brewer studied in Bavaria and worked at a brewery in Franconia. He's obviously focusing on two styles ("country" Pils and Dunkel) indigenous to that very distinct and individualistic area. Koelsch and Alt are almost as foreign to that beer culture as IPA and RIS.

    Often less is more....
