In your "hads" what beer do you have as a 3? The beer that you judge all others buy? Your not good, but not bad, beers? Mine are Shiner Bock, Fat Tire, and SNPA. What say you? What is your measuring bar?

You hit mine. Fat Tire. Used to drink it a lot more than developed a love of BA Stouts, Barleywines, Triple IPA's, Saisons, Wild Ales so a base red went bye bye.

    Cheers!

Bridgeport makes a lot of 3's, that I consider, at least, more like 4's or even better.

Ha! That's hilarious. Fat Tire is the ultimate 3 and got 3s across the board from me. Everything about it was average. They should rename it "3". There's nothing technically wrong with it but it is the definition of uninteresting. I had heard so much buzz about it, from non beer nerds in retrospect, who I suspect liked the label art and like a bland beer that's admittedly better than macros, and was so disappointed that it was utterly forgettable. It used to be that I defined average by macro light lagers. But then I realized those were more like a 2, because things were actively wrong with them, gross adjunct perfumey sweetness for example, wet cardboard, etc. So now 3 for me means the legions of minor micros and homebrews that are better than macros but make no impression at all.

Great Divide's Denver Pale is what I envision as a 3.

To me, overall is the score that I find most reflective of my opinion on a beer and Denver Pale Ale falls there. I actually was more generous for some of the other categories but that's cause I try to be more objective with those. Overall is more subjective for me and the truest depiction of what I think of a beer.

So Fat Tire is a popular 3. I'm new to this "world" but already on kind of the same page

I've got a handful of 3's and plenty within a few decimal points of it, but for absolute, sheer, extreme averageness, I gotta go with Narragansett. The flagship lager, specifically. Like I said, I have other 3's, but they arrived there by dint of having flaws equal to their upsides. 'Gansett is pretty much that 'average' beer that you grab because you know nobody will complain.

    Long trail pale ale.
SNPA is higher than a 3 people
Fat tire is less than a 3 I think.
I'd say yuengling is a 3ish beer too

I must avoid 3's because I can't think of one.

I have a lot of 3s... I don't judge others by them. For me, 3 just means I would drink it if given to me, but wouldn't buy it again. 3.5 maybe buy, 4 and up definitely buy. Luckily I have regular access to a lot of 4+ beers.

New Castle Brown Ale and Sam Adams Infinium. I think both are as average for the style as they can get.
