addicted to buying beer...

I'm addicted to both buying beer and brewing equipment, brewing and buying more than I will ever be able to drink, cellaring or not.

 

Guilty.

11.2 or 12 oz. bottles - 429 (~ 300 are Belgians and/or Belgian styles that don't expire until 2014-2017)

Bombers / 750s - 130 (I'm proud to say only 4 are past expiration, and not by much; again, most don't expire until well into 2014 and as far away as 2022)

As if the above amounts don't seem insane enough, if you say that a bomber is 2 bottles of beer, then I have over 28 cases of beer in the "beer room".

 

This man speaks the truth, heed him. I was able to break my beer-buying habit by focusing on working out and amateur bodybuilding. Now I am just addicted to buying whey protein and supplements. What was your question again?

 

The real question is are you just hoarding beer?

If it becomes a compulsion then you will end up spending a ton of money and then flushing it down the drain as the beer deteriorates in your "cellar". I've got a friend that can't bring himself to open beers from his cellar stash so he drinks PBR and talks about how many good beers he is sitting on
Dude has ruined more beer than he has improved by aging it.

Please share your secret. I've been on a similar beer diet (while failing to make any significant dent in my inventory), but I have not seen a commensurate weight reduction. Sadly, the opposite appears to have happened. I could confirm this, but that would require me to step on a scale.

 

Before I moved I always had 5-6 cases of various beers sitting around. You know: 3 bottles of this, a six of those, plently of one-off brews from the then functioning Heavyweight Brewing for both aging and as trade bait aging patiently in a hollowed out section of my cellar wall. I had my fun with it and all but now I'm in the "beer is meant to be drunk" frame of mind instead of sitting on it...although it was nice to go down there, gaze upon my collection while wringing my hands together and grinning like a lunatic lol.

 

I always think I have too much but then again I don't drink a ton so my definition of too much may be different.

Since I've started to feel that way I've been trying to focus more on buying things with longer shelf life. My space is super limited now though so... It may get worse when I get into a new, bigger place next spring.

 

The second most valuable place in my home is my beer cellar. First? My wife's jewelry box.

Yeah, I dont feel guilty at all.

I have just recently started to "hunt" beer. I make my bottle shop rounds about once a week usually only getting a few bottles unless I see something that I just have to have then I may buy more than I need to.
I have about 3 cases worth of beer at the moment but am always looking for more plus 3 trades currently happening in which I am waiting for 3 boxes to arrive.
I often suffer from broken wallet especially because I live about an hour from CCB and when I go there I go broke!

Agreed! I only drink maybe 2 beers a week...but it doesn't stop me from buying a new RIS that appears in the store!

You're describing my beer buying habits to a "t." I also have about 200-250 beers in my basement right now, and I hate to admit, too many of them are IPAs that are past their best by dates. But still, I stopped on my way home last night to see if the shop on the way had Victory Dirtwolf. They did, plus they had Clown Shoes Hoppy Feet, which I couldn't resist, so that's another 8 IPAs added to the pile. Oh, and then there's the case of Red's Rye PA I picked up a couple weeks ago ....

I only wish I was able to drink them all without having to spend the rest of my life A) shit-faced and B) fat-assed.
