I'm planning a visit to Hill Farmstead in late November. I'm coming from the Adirondacks, so I'm going to hit Alchemist as well. Since Alchemist opens an hour earlier than HF, it would make more sense to stop there first.

Do you need to line up right as Hill Farmstead opens to get your hands on the bottles? Don't want to waste precious driving time, but also don't want to show up at HF in the afternoon and leave empty handed.

Unless Shaun changes his mind and has another huge, pre-announced bottle release, you don't need to worry about showing up early for bottles, especially since he doesn't even post what's available on his site. I would hit up Alchemist first, which has a better chance of selling out, and then head to HF a little later, like 3 or 4, which should help you avoid a long growler line.

Also note that if you're there just to buy bottles and not growlers, they usually let you skip to the front of the line.

    Bring plenty of cash!!

I disagree with this. Living in Vermont and making it to HF and Alchemist regularly, I advise going to HF first. The main thing is to go on a Wednesday. It's the only day you are essentially guaranteed Heady and at the same time will get you Hill Farmstead as well. But the lines at Hill Farmstead can be long and it moves much slower than at the Alchemist. I would get to HF at 11:45 get what you need then tool on down Rt 100 and hit Alchemist around 2 PM or so and they will have plenty of Heady. From a Vermonter who makes this trip a lot, that's what I'd recommend.

Get over it...I think it makes sense to go Alchemist first, pending they have beer so check twitter/FB

Thanks for the tip. Luckily, I am going on a Wednesday. I figured I could hit Alchemist right at 11, pick up a couple cases, then make it to HF by 3 or so since that would be the most efficient itinerary. Do you think HF will still be stocked with bottles by then, or should I stick with your suggestion?

Does HF have more or cheaper options for growler fills than they do bottles?

I just want to stand in line at HF for as short a period of time as possible. Getting there right as they open is the way I do it. And getting to Alchemist late is never an issue as they always have plenty of Heady on Wednesdays. If you showed up at HF at say 1 PM, you will likely stand in line for at least 1 and a half hours.

Seconded, I have also arrived at Hill Farmstead at 11:45 on Wednesday or Thursday a couple times over the last few months and gotten out of there in a half hour.

Yes, usually 5 varieties on tap for growler fills and by volume it's cheaper than bottles.

You're still butt hurt about going to HF a few weeks ago and coming away handed, its probably your 4th or 5th post eluding to the "incident." You're either doing it on purpose to get some sort of sympathy like or your doing it unknowingly...my guess is the former. Either way it has nothing to do with the OPs original post so it didn't need to be brought up again because you know shaun is not doing a big release in the near future...don't play dumb.

Wow how did you read from my initial post into any of that you miserable loser? People like you are ruining this site. I'm trying to help out OP. Didn't realize you were the BA police on here, or that you were so interested in my posts. Get a life. And if this response gets me banned because apparently anything can right now so be it. You're pathetic.

If you're looking to get in and out of HF quickly you have 2 options:
    1) Get there at 11:45am. Some days that gets you the first spot in line, some days you might be 10 back.
    2) Go at 4:45pm. I have had just as much if not more luck avoiding long lines taking this approach.

As far as Heady goes, as others have said you can go anytime on a Wednesday.

I'll take the high road here, and not relate to name calling...OP you do not have to worry about a big bottle release in the near future shaun stated it wasnt going to happen. Crookdrain knows this and all future disagreements with me will be kept to Beer mail and not name besmirching.

One of my last trips was on Weds. I Showed up at the Alchemist 10 minutes before they opened and was first in line. Left there, and was about 12th in line at Hill Farmstead. This was on a Damon/Flora day. I think you should be fine.

Ok, I'm piggy backing on this. Going there in the beginning of November. Are Friday's around 1 just crazy? We're driving up from NJ on Thursday and we were planning in going Friday afternoon. I was thinking to avoid Saturday all together. Should I think about driving there on Thursday afternoon...like 4ish instead?

Cool, thanks. I don't mind waiting in line (so long as it's not, like, three hours), I just don't want to leave empty-handed.
