    Just saw that too.

To me, seems to be stipulating that the ABC is A-ok with blank growlers and hangtags, just no other branding (unless it's entirely obscured). CCBA even recommends a neck hangtag with the beer info.

Interesting how it says ABC doesn't differentiate between packaging - (ie keg vs growler, etc) - breweries have been doing "hang tags" on kegs, so growlers shouldn't be a big step...

The photoshopped RR tag just makes me sad.

Eh, I'm not going to bother caring till places actually listened to what they can do instead of pull random bullshit out of their ass as to why their hands are tied on the matter.

Agreed. I just found it amusing that Auburn Alehouse posted a link to this as a justification for only filling their branded growlers, which didn't make any sense at all. It's was as though they didn't even fully read it past the first few points.

That is a pretty good clarification. That is what, the 2nd or 3rd one this year? I don't blame a brewery for not jumping in to all this crap as it will probably have a couple of more clarifications soon. That being said, making the effort to enact/implement this properly could be a good competitive advantage in somewhere like San Diego where there are 1000 new breweries a month.

The best competitive advantage? Brewing better beer!

That's precisely why the place in the foothills east of San Diego thrives. Their owner can be a complete asshat, and they can continually make more difficult for people going there to pick up beer to go, but people like their beer so there you go...

OK, so I stopped into Auburn Alehouse today on my way home from Tahoe, eager to purchase a growler of their beer. Was told they were completely out of growlers. That they had been ordered but were late arriving, something to do with the government shutdown (WTF?). I thought about asking them if, that being the case, they would consider filling a growler from another brewery, but I was in a hurry to get back on the road and didn't have a growler that wasn't already full of beer so I didn't bother.

But now that I read this I know what they would have said, and the irony is, the entire wall behind their bar is decorated with growlers from other breweries. I wonder if they received these from people who came in wanting fills ("we'll only charge the refill price if you want to trade in that one)....and now they have no growlers of their own to fill for a thirsty guy with money.

Is Stone attaching the same labels they have always attached to their growlers, or is there a newly approved label specifically for blank fills?

The growlers I filled over the weekend had the same tags (stickers) they've had for the last year or so.

U all realize this bill has not been signed yet, right? Ab 647 still sits on the California uber alles' desk. It should help clear items up when/if signed.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the new law will not change anything that brewers have to do, either procedurally or legally, from the ABC's recent clarification of the law back in February.

I hope they refuse to honor it. That way I can laugh and cry just a little bit more about the state of Growler Law in CA.
