I've got a lot of hobbies: fishing, camping, hiking, biking, video games, watching sports, etc. I've always like craft beer, but over the last year, I find myself spending more time on craft beer related forums like BA, as well as "collecting" (cellaring) and trading for beer. I consider it one of my hobbies, like the others listed.

Does everybody consider it a hobby or just something you enjoy?

Definitely a hobby now. I think the facts that that I A.) have an account on here and B.) spend good money on it alone make it a hobby. Rivaled only by my retro video games... two hobbies best enjoyed together!

It's both a hobby on it's own, as well as companion to other hobbies.

If you added I home brewing to it I would have said yes. Beer TBH is something I drink, I never figured eating or drinking was a hobby thing. I guess collecting bottles would be a hobby? or labels? but just the act of drinking it no.
Still it sure is one of my favorite activities. its like getting off the ship after a 6 month cruise, first thing was get me a beer and then a decent hamburger, etc

Tennis is my first love and I occasionally give up beer for it when my league is active (like now). But it is definitely one of my main hobbies.

I love it! It's definitely one of my hobbies. I have posted to the are you addicted to buying beer thread as well as so many others that would indicate that I spend quite a bit of time and money on beer. I love pairing beer with food and in one edition of BA magazine they had a delightful bunch of asian noodle recipes that used beer. I am an official enthusiast or "beer advocate."

It's one of my hobbies now. I used to spend much more time with photography and golf, but craft beer is talking up more time these days. I casually got into craft beer and loved it. I ended up passing the CBS exam, and my next goal with respect to craft beer is homebrew an Alpine Nelson clone and pass the Certified Cicerone exam while trying to keep a good balance with everything else in my life.

Where's the option for "It's a debilitating, crippling, life-warping addiction"?

With my next paycheck, I'll likely be buying my beginner's homebrew kit. I've always enjoyed beer, but the moment I decided to start homebrewing was when I started considering it a hobby.

Absolutely, if I was doing it for any other reason I would have to be a fool to spend this kind of money just to try and get drunk.

You know that craft beer has become a hobby when you start running out of hiding places to 'stash' your goodies!!

It's too consuming to be a hobby.

My other hobbies can't be done year around but examining beer and eventually home brewing can....so what what better way to keep myself occupied all year

Music, motorcycling, home projects are the main hobbies. Beer mixes with one and a half of those depending on the home project, although these days I tend not to combine 'em. Way too old to be doing concerts in an inebriated state  So sort of complimentary yet still separate? When I get to the point where I can find the time to consistently home brew that will change - hopefully brewing replaces the home projects.

At the same time, there are definite signs that it is more of an obsession. Like thinking an air freshener or a cleaning product has a really nice hop aroma...and then trying to figure out which beer I've tasted had that characteristic.

I'm not crazy into trying to acquire limited beers (if I see it and decide the price is worth it, I will buy it), I don't trade, I only have about 30 beers in my cellar...so based on some things I've read in the forums lately, I guess I'm not that into beer

However, I am pretty darn well-versed in my beeriness...I've been to over 50 different breweries, drink beer pretty much every night, read about beer all the time (not just internet forums, but actual published books and magazines), go to a couple different beer festivals a year (serving at GABF tonight and tomorrow), and brew beer at least two or three times a month. It is more than a hobby. It has become a lifestyle.

definitely my main hobby because of the time and effort i put into it, not to mention the amount of money i spend on beer. also started home-brewing so if that was an option above I would have checked that as well.

Has been a profession for years, but I just plain like good beer. It's not really a hobby. My hobbies are reading any and everything and hunting for things- mostly American Indian artifacts, but I find crazy stuff all of the time. I'm a hunter and clutterer. Beer Advocate is a hobby. Cheers.

That will probably become your main hobby. I would say, among others of course, that making beer, mead, and ciders are one of my passions.
