You can get many of the best beers in the world for $20 a pop...good luck getting that ratio per ounce with the best wine.

I also enjoy a good wine with dinner. I often pair what I drink with my meal, and that includes beer. In my mind there are a lot of good libations out there, I have an extensive collection of anejo tequilas, but I always seem to gravitate back to a good beer when I want to kick back and relax.

What wins every time for me.... The quality beverage
Could be Beer, Wine, or Spirit.
I stay away from making any comparison such as a cheap wine vs a cheap beer, an expensive beer vs an expensive wine. Which is better?
    It all depends

You came to a beer forum so expect biased results. Of course the majority of people here are going to prefer beer over wine, myself included. Beer is just so much more fun IMO. I can drink a couple of refreshing pils while fishing or sit by a fireside and sip a gigantic stout. Options.

I like both - but as others mentioned...it depends on the availability and pairings. I think the answers above are all correct though. Its situational at best  Enjoy and raise a cup....or a glass....of whatever!

I prefer beer aged in wine barrels. I enjoy both to be honest.

    I love good wine.

Consider that the lowest alcohol wines start in the 9% neighborhood and usually hover around 14%. Many breweries, especially in the States, do a substantial amount of their pricing off the alcohol content, both as a practical matter of inputs and as a byproduct of some laws. If you were to compare beer vs wine and factor in alcohol the price-to-pleasure equation becomes much more equatable.

I'm not out to proselytize wine on the BA forum but it behooves everyone to remember that good high octane beer and good wine (of comparable ABV) are not only not far apart but often inverse to OP's initial assertion. Assuming you like wine, of course.

this seems like a trolling attempt, except that it's preaching to the choir.

I love both. But I'll take a top-notch wine (Pride, Shafer, Kosta Browne, Carlisle, etc) over a top-notch beer any day of the week. Wine ages so much better, it's a dimension beer just doesn't have to it.

I don't see this as a reason for preferring beer over wine. The most consistent beers are macro lagers from BMC.
To answer the OP, what is better, lobster or steak? It's entirely a matter of personal taste.Lucky people like both and enjoy them according to the situation and their mood.

I don't remember the last time I had a glass of wine. Probably sometime in 2012. At this point, I have no desire to seek out wine. There was a point years ago, when it was the complete opposite because all I knew were BMC beers and I hated them.

By asking this question on BA, you are obviously going to be limited in the kinds of answers you are going to get.

Seeing as I love beer & great beer is not extremely expensive, I feel no need to seek out wine. A 75 cl. bottle of Cantillon Geuze is 5 €, I seriously question the possibility of fining a 5 € bottle of wine that is as good as Cantillon Geuze. Wine seems to only start at that price point. Whilst wine lovers might argue that the cheapest wines are better than Cantillon Geuze, that is not how I perceive them myself, taste-wise.

I have had some wines which have impressed me but they were all expensive & very sweet French white wines. Which wine lovers tell me play only second fiddle to the red ones. I do not seem to care for the red ones, the oak & tannin notes, their combinations,… It is probably a flaw in my pallet. If I spend 100 € on a bottle, I would much rather have Islay whiskey and not wine. Plus I find wine off-putting, I cannot pick up all of the complexities which people talk about, the brands, descriptions etc. really confuse me.

I think that in general people pick wine > beer, frequently I feel this is based more on reputation than actual taste. I have seen people praise the complexities of box-wine over a BA RIS I gave them to try. Quite literally, they were drinking box wine afterwards & describing the superiority of it. Maybe they were right but it just seemed to me that they valued the wine higher for the only reason because it was wine.

I definitely go with beer but would like try try more wine as I've discovered I like a lot of reds. The problem here is I would rather spend my beer money on, well, beer instead of wine.

I don't think one is really better than the other. Each has situations where it's the right drink.

There is no "vs." unless you really want there to be one. Both achieve greatness.

^ that's the right answer. What's great is loving both and having them both, the top ends of both, in your life. Many of us love good food too. And music. It's not a pick one and forsake everything else. At least not for me.

There is one wine I've had in my life that I can remember to this day. It was an amazingly oakey Carbernet that was only like 20 bucks, I had the whole foods wine guy pick it out for me. Trouble is I didn't save the bottle and can't remember the vineyard and all wine labels look the same to me, so fat chance I'll figure it out. I've never had this problem with a beer, even ones I barely remember I can still manage to figure out what they were.
