Perfect day in SoCal and I am hanging outside bbqing. Nice cool breeze so I thought why the heck not. My first beer of the day is my first KBS.

2013 Founders KBS poured into a dogfish snifter. I let the bottle sit outside for about 10 min before pouring it.

A - pitch black. I held the beer up into the sun and can't see through any part of it, even around the rim.
Nice half finger of head on an aggressive pour. The head has stuck around until I finished the glass. Head is a pretty dark cream tan color. Left even some lacing. Some nice alcohol legs too.

S - first smell I got was cocoa, a bakers cholocate smell. Followed by vanilla, and oak. I get a touch of bourbon and coffee and the end. As it warms the vanilla, oak, coffee and bourbon come to the forefront but never too much or unpleasant. Such an amazing aroma. Smell is abundant but not overpowering.

T - cholocate, vanilla, bourbon and coffee. The flavors all harmonize well with each other. Much like the smell
The first 1/3 i got more cocoa and second half more vanilla and bourbon.

M - heavier body but not chewy. Super smooth and velvety.

O - just a great bourbon aged stout. I am really impressed how balanced it was. I got all the flavors without one being too much.

    New Pale Ale Sunday

Beautiful day in NE Florida. Mornings are finally cool, and even though we were well into the 80s by afternoon, it was dry enough to not feel like summer. A mostly lazy day, that begged for a new beer. I home-brew, so probably 80% of what I drink at home I brew myself; purchases tend to fill in for what I haven't brewed lately myself, and I tend to go with reliables. Need a hop fix? - Twelver of Torpedo is my go-to. I may also get a bomber of a well-like Belgian if Im in the mood and don't have one of my own. So I'm not sure what made me pick up a 6-pack of Dale's Pale Ale, but boy am I glad I did! This will be a new regular in my fridge for sure.

Another great weekend in West MI

The family went down to my alma mater for the homecoming football game yesterday. Great tailgate, terrible game, awesome post-game afternoon in the Bell's Beer Garden. That place has really evolved over the years. There's even more to love these days, very family friendly in the garden.

Today was great. Mostly sunny skies and temps in the 60s. I took care of a few home projects, got in a short run, and popped the top on another great brew as the temps started to nosedive at the sunset.

Always a big fan of NBS.

    New Stout Black Sabbath Sunday!
Stone Farking Wheaton W00t Stout by Stone (and Fark. And Wil Wheaton...)
AND (special bonus spin just for you!)
Game of Thrones #2: Take the Black Stout by Ommegang

Man, I love me some autumn. For all of the reasons. I love the crisp but sunny weather, it has all the best spices, seasonals and holidays, and my birthday is this season to boot.
Today was a beautiful day here in the midwest, started off right with a brisk bike ride to the nursing building where we finally FINALLY put together a study group (like we've been talking about doing for the past five months). Well, that may be a bit generous. Out of the dozen or so people who expressed interest/said they would show up, there were.... (Drum roll please...) two of us. It was good though. We got through everything for the test tomorrow and both seemed to have a pretty good grasp of the material and both seemed pretty greatful for the opportunity to bounce it off someone else. Solidifying the understanding and all that.
Got home just in time to ride back out to watch the Seahawks game, which was closer and uglier than I'd like, but a win is a win at the end of the day. We just REALLY need to get some semblence of a healthy O-line. Russell Wilson is a beast when moving around and buying time, but he should have to do so on every single dropback.
Once again was mistaken for someone that they knew, as well. No, you don't know me from work, I've never worked food industry here in St Louis, and I know you weren't at the steakhouse in Lubbock when I was there. Yes, I'm sure. No, I've just got one of those faces. Yes, probably from 'around the neighbourhood' even though I'm pretty sure we don't live in the same part of the city, let alone the same block.

Tried a couple of new 'stouts' today. I put that in semi-quote-marks, because though it's named a stout, I think this site really has it better classified as a BSDA. The Farking Wheaton W00t Stout was pretty much just what I was hoping it would be. Of the two, it was decidedly the stoutlier Stout, coming in from the roasty/creamy side of stout-dom, whereas the Take the Black 'Stout' came from the plum/dark fruits/sweet side of things. Personally I much prefer the former to the latter (both in stylistic approaches to stouts in general, and in terms of which specific beer I preferred), though I can understand if others disagree.

Beautiful afternoon, good beer, good food, Seahawks win, and (likely misplaced, but oh well) confidence heading into tomorrow's tough test made for a pretty good sunday overall. Hope y'all are experiencing something similar, and cheers!!

    >>>>>>> New Porter Sunday <<<<<<<

I am having the Out Of Your Gourd Pumpkin Porter from Redhook. A decent porter with a seasonal flavor. An un-spiced version might be a really good porter.

Clear and sunny here in the Columbia Basin with the temp right on 60. I passed on the golf course today and watched the Seahawks instead.

A gander through the DBF shows I am out of new beer at this point, so I have some shopping to do this week.

    Happy Trails!

Greetings from the still hot and humid state of Louisiana! As I watch football and playoff baseball, I've been getting cravings for a nice hoppy oktoberfest-style beer. Bought a few, and this is considered an ESB, but very good nonetheless!

Cheers, and I plan to be back later!

Man, I wasn't lying when I said I was in the mood for this style today. This might be the best I've ever had of the Märzen / Oktoberfest style, and it was good!

All I want now is a huge soft-baked pretzel and some mustard!
