I know hoppy and oktoberfest are counterintuitive but anybody ever have a hopped up oktoberfest or lager. I'm not looking for any ipl's but something with a more caramel/toffee taste to it.
P.S. Sorry for yet another thread about hops.

I once homebrewed an Oktoberfest beer where I added an ounce of Hallertauer Mittelfruh for the last 15 minutes of the boil. There was a fair amount of hop flavor which I frankly liked in that batch. In subsequent batches if halved the amount of hops for the flavor addition to obtain a beer truer to style.

A hoppy Oktoberfest (or at least the one I brewed) is a tasty beer. I am unaware of any commercially brewed hoppy Oktoberfest beers.

    Cheers!

P.S. My homebrewed hoppy Oktoberfest was not hoppy from a bitterness perspective.

OP: what do you think about Sam Adams Boston Lager? That is a beer that is hoppy which also has a malty/caramel taste to it as well.

    Cheers!

It's pricey and not in your area, but maybe you can get your hands on Element's Altoberfest. You might find it interesting.

Pizza Port San Clemente had a fresh hop octoberfest on tap not too long ago. Too bad they didn't can it. Sounds like it was exactly what you were looking for.

I read the BA reviews of this beer and it sounds like a tasty Sticke Alt beer to me. I wish that Element was more widely distributed (only available in MA and VT) since I would like to taste this beer.

    Cheers!

P.S. I will be homebrewing a Sticke Alt next week.

Update: The Pizza Port Octoberfest, was actually a "wet" hop Octoberfest named Hoptoberfest.

Seekabrew is out of date. They are now in six states including NY (check their website for the others). I made my other post thinking that other readers would have access to buy. I find that they can be heavy handed but I like their ESO and always look for their stuff.

The hoppiest Ofest I ever had was probably Great Lakes. A super hoppy lager that I wish was still made was the Coronado Hoppy Lager. Great beer.

Milwaukee Brewing Company has a seasonal called Hoptoberfest. Maybe give that a try. It's listed on BA as being "retired," but they came out with it again this year.

I had it fresh a year or two ago and I remember it being a slightly hoppy amber lager. it was enjoyable.

but if you can get a Jack's Abby brew, any of them, just get one of those.

Victory's Festbier seems to be a little hoppy for the style. But an over hopped Octoberfest is something I hope I never see and the over hopping trend is annoying to me, especially when considering how many other hoppy styles there are out there and hop heads have PLENTY to choose from as it is.

I found one once, I cant remember the name but it was on the shelf between the Balanced Double IPA and a nice light, crisp imperial stout:sunglasses:

You'd rather see the same style done to death rather than experimenting with new/different styles?
And does it bother you that much that people are going to make and drink what they want, not necessarily what you want?

Not a lager, but Southern Tier Harvest has the flavor profile you're looking for.

I'd rather see a classic style with a lot of history behind it be what it is supposed to be, especially a seasonal one. Of course people can experiment and do what they want to do but I don't want to see a style ruined by the over hop trend...there are PLENTY of hoppy beers to choose from so why encroach on this style? To me it's odd to approach a malty, smoother style and want it to be less of what it is supposed to be...in that case why not just find what you are looking for? I would never pick up a Sprite and say, "Wow, this should be more like a Coke."
