The Northeast looks the most intelligent.

Why is Sam Adams so popular in Illinois?

All that great beer and California goes for Corona. Seriously? At least New England has a respectable choice, and I'm kind of surprised the South isn't Bud Light territory.

It's funny that CA has arguably the greatest beer scene in the country but the worst overall taste.

Taste is a matter of opinion. But I agree with yours

Looking at the page,is the consumption of vodka really greater than that of red wine?

Yeah, this helps make a lot of sense out of why it seems to be the BAs from CA who are the most aggressive on the site when it comes to accusing others of being "Homers" or arguing that their beer us the best (e.g. West Coast IPAs vs East Coast IPAs, etc.), or that everyone else is biased in their ratings. I think my old Psych prof. would love it... :-)

5249 drinkers. Small sample size. Not that we didn't know Bud Light would make its appearance....

Living in California I can assure you Corona is purely a trendy beer among the beach goers and river rats, but I am actually surprised Bud Light didn't take this one after you consider the college and Glamis crowds.

I had no idea that Yuengling was that popular. Having never lived outside of MO and KS I have never had or even seen one. 'Round here we only know Yuengling as that old brewery out east somewhere.

A more meaningful statistic would be actual sales. This is only a survey of 5000+ "drinkers."

In PA it's so common it's just "lager". Not a great beer, but way more interesting than BMC.

I FUCKING hate Corona. I'm ashamed, but what did I really expect?

They were all presented the same 18 options as well, which skews it a bit. Any state that picked Sam Adams is doing it right. Blue Moon is better than the expected bud/miller logos all over the place, though.

Agreed. Somehow I don't think blue moon dominates nearly half if the United States in popularity. Actual sales is a much better indicator of popularity than 5000 people out of 300,000,000.

The thing about including sales instead of opinions is that people don't always buy their favorites. My favorite meal is a porterhouse steak from a nice steakhouse, but I *buy* 50x more burgers from pubs than steaks. It's a different measurement.
I'm sure they polled some beer geeks among those 5K people. We can't even agree on our favorite beers and brewers amongst ourselves, let along measuring them against name brands that are FAR more well-known. The people that voted for Stone, New Belgium, Victory, Brooklyn, etc. just muddied the waters a little.
