I need some advice/feedback on an idea. My kids' school is having a silent auction fund raiser for the adults, and they are asking for donations to auction. My idea is a "beer tasting basket". It would include a set of flight glasses & paddle, Randy Mosher's "Tasting Beer: An Insider's Guide to the World's Greatest Drink", a box of Beer Flats crackers (one of each kind), a 6-pack of various styles (one of each: porter, IPA, wheat, pilsner, Belgian, seasonal), a fancy bottle opener and bar towel. What do you think of this idea? What would make it better? Thanks!
I think that's already a very nice basket. How about adding an 1-year subscription to Beeradvocate magazine?
That does sound like a pretty awesome basket already. I can't think of much else to add - maybe a nice pair of coasters with a brewery on it, etc.
Possibly a nice notebook for notes wwhen trying the beers (and new ones). Also, where is said auction? I want to bid lol
I'd bid on it. One thing...Make sure you get the sixer cleared with the PTA, BOA, or whoever. If it's on school property they may have a problem with it depending on your local BOA rules. Around here there is zero tolerance for alcohol on public school property and you can be arrested and fined. You could do a beer of the month club instead if need be. Good luck!
Sounds great as it is. If you think you need to add something else Maybe add one or two bombers that are not expensive. I was thinking Hop Stoopid and something from Stone. It would look more impressive.
It shouldn't be a problem. Its a private school and they'll have beer & wine with the dinner. In previous years there were other "baskets of cheer" that were auctioned off.
As a BA, I love this. But as mentioned DelMontiac, make sure that all is kosher. In my district, in CA, we have a foundation that raises money. The events are adult only, sometimes have gambling, serve alcohol, and have auction items that include alcohol. So it IS possible, but it depends on who is running it. Many PTA's would not allow alcohol.
Now that's my kinda school. That's unheard of around this part of the Bible Belt. The only private schools in my town are run by churches so it's a no go. With maybe the exception of the Catholic school.
This is what I have: Lager: Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold Wheat: Anchor Summer Ale IPA: Stone Ruination Stout: Main Beer Company Mean Old Tom Belgian: The Bruery Mischief English ESB: Wells Bombardier I'm kind of on the fence with the Dortmunder and the Anchor. Both are excellent examples of the styles, but they are only 12 oz bottles, and the others are either 16 oz or 22 oz.
