Just had my first Enjoy By, and it was the best IPA I've ever tasted. Considering I am not an IPA fan, I enjoyed it because it had an intense hop flavor without being overly bitter. As a New Yorker, I don't have access to many of the highly rated IPAs (Hopslam, Pliny, Heady, FFF). What would folks recommend as an alternative to Enjoy By?

You are a fan of fresh IPAs. If you guys get firestone walker, look for Union Jack and Double Jack. You could/should also go to VT and get some Heady Topper.

I would suggest checking out some Ithaca Flower Power and Smuttynose Finestkind, both should be available to you.

Smuttynose and Jai Alai are great answers. Heady is very good but quite bitter (at least a lot more so than Enjoy By...), and the same can be said for most of Three Floyds offerings. Besides Bells Oracle, they make the most bitter beer I've ever had in Arctic Panzer Wolf. What I'm trying to say is that some of the most highly rated IIPAs may not be what you're looking for (though Heady is a must regardless).

Personally, I think your best bet is to gobble up as many as possible of the wet-hopped/fresh-hopped/harvest IPAs that are coming out around this time. Founders Harvest Ale, Sierra Nevada Northern Hemisphere Harvest, trade for Three Floyds Broo Doo, trade for Surly Wet, Sixpoint Autumnation (though I haven't had it, I know it's wet-hopped), just anything you can get that is wet-hopped/harvest because these beers tend to be less on the bitterness and more on that delicious floral and citrus hop flavor that you seem to be craving.

Edit: I forgot the obvious answer: Flower Power. Anything with a more floral leaning profile will be a lot less bitter than your pine/grapefruit/citrus leaning varieties.

ny has a couple pretty highly regarded ipa's too...ithaca makes a beer called flower power that will knock your tits off, and sixpoint has bengali tiger...both are in every beer distributor ive been to in ny, and extremely fresh

Seconding Ithaca Flower Power. Had it on tap at the brewery, it's awesome. It's pretty fresh right now too because they just released their Box of Hops variety pack, 4 fresh hoppy beers. 3 of which are brewed specifically for this pack.

It's not a replacement as much as an Amazon "If you liked Enjoy By, you might also like...", at least that's what OP asked for.

Right, I just don't think Finestkind and Enjoy By are terribly similar, is all. To my palate, they seem like pretty different places on the IPA spectrum.

Edit: And I also thought Finestkind is rather bitter--not as bitter as they get, but certainly moreso than Enjoy By.

Finestkind is far more bitter, I suppose, but it does have a similar hop essence to it on my palate, plus, at how cheap it tends to go for, what does OP have to lose?

To me the Amarillo dry-hopping of Finestkind gives it that juicy citrus mouthfeel that Enjoy By shares. I definitely agree Finestkind is obviously on the more bitter end but Enjoy By is unique in that it's hopped to the gills and can vary from batch to batch yet still retain a sweet citrusy flavor. Hard to replace it, I only suggested Smuttynose as an alternative.

To replace Enjoy By is difficult to do, but if you have access to Weyerbacher Double Simcoe, PICK IT UP! That's the beer that got me hooked on DIPA's

That's an interesting point, because the few times I've had Finestkind, the bottles have been still within the 'best by' date, but they were likely about three months out from bottling, using a six-month timeframe between their bottling and best by dates. From the little I understand about dry-hopping, the stage of hop addition that is most prone to hop fade, so perhaps that's preventing me from getting the citric flavors you are picking up. I mean, they are there for me, but not in the citrus-bomb way that Enjoy By always seems to present.
