Victory Dirtwolf vs Lagunitas Sucks

I don't know if I had an off 4 pack or what, but DirtWolf was nothing special to me at all.

 

I've had 8 Dirtwolfs. Sucks is the better beer to me. More cat piss astringency and no alcohol. Dirtwolf is a good buy but it's not a world beater like sucks, HT, hop stoopid, enjoy by.

 

I'd probably wait a couple months to try them side by side.. DirtWolf would win easily right now and I haven't even had it yet.
Anyone seen it in WI yet?

 

Agreed. Picked up a single to see what all the fuss was about, and after tasting it definitely don't understand the hoopla. Its not bad by any means, but not nearly as good as the DIPAs it is being compared to.

 

Sucks has a way better aroma, and better mouthfeel. Taste wise, Sucks is a bit jucier fruit wise, and Dirtwolf is a bit more piney/resin and then fruity to me. Both hide the booze well, but Sucks does it better, IMO..

Point is, they are both good. I like Sucks more, but let's talk when both are year round and easy to find at the same time. Sucks is priced well too, and I will be doing some serious renditions of my college days when Sucks comes out in 32oz bottles, and I tape them to my hands on friday's after work. I'm sure my wife can't wait.

How can we compare beers that aren't even out at the same time?
IMHO, only by side by sides are true gauges and unless Sucks is out elsewhere (I'm 20 min from the brewery) it'd be hard to say which is better.
That being said, they're both great.

 

I'm hoping Tony see's this, and realizes that if he wants to really piss on Freddy at Sweetwater, he should send me like a whole truck of sucks 32oz'er and a bunch of swag like work shirts, and I'll wear it all over Atlanta for him.

Very much agreed. I think everyone is stuck on what they remember about Sucks and aren't giving DirtWolf it's due. Once they have Sucks again it'll be like... This was Sucks? It'll be all that: "The old batch was so much better" BS that we hear all too often. Sucks ain't out yet so I'm lovin every minute of DW. So sick of the large bottle formats these days as well, so I will be totally content lovin my DirtWolf. I'll try Sucks again when it comes out, but won't be too beat up when I'm underwhelmed.

I had DW for the first and this far only time and it's awesome. But they aren't the same beer so while both great, depending on your taste, one may be better than the other.
Me personally, while I don't know all the details of hops, barley blah blah. I know a thing or three about fucking good beer and these are both exactly that.

 

Dirtwolf, very easily. A whole level up from any Lagunitas IPA.

 

All these awesome new IPAs out lately have been a gift from the beer gods: Green Bullet, Dirtwolf and Double Dose. Amazing stuff.

I'm gonna have to say Sucks is better than all of them, though.

 

Once again I fully agree. I was blown away when I first got to try Sucks last year. Same thing happened with DirtWolf this year. I think because, with both of them, I wasn't expecting much. Not sure why I wasn't, but was very pleasantly surprised by both of these beers. I just think people are going through withdrawals from Sucks and aren't giving DW what it deserves. As much as I loved Sucks, I guess I can't blame 'em... I'm just happy to have something close to, if not better!

 

I find DirtWolf similar in taste to Double Dose. Don't listen to me, I'm crazy.

 

Haven't gotten Dirtwolf here yet, but I'm loving these reasonably priced DIPA's coming out! I drink a bunch of Maximus currently.
How does The Truth stack up with these two?
