Went to fridge tonight to pick a bottle to enjoy after a long day. When I do this, I usually look for something special and don't pay attention to readily available shelf stuff.

After some pondering, there it is. Good 'ol Stone IRS on the shelf for several months not getting any props. It's on most bottle shop shelves all year long for $5.99. What a damn delicious economical option with little recognition. Enjoyed it immensely and will be getting more soon.

    Any similar experiences?

I love stone IRS and I'm sure I can easily say I've put down a couple cases since April. Got a couple bottles cellared but will continue buying them as long as they're available. Really wish the espresso version was still around, and too bad we gotta wait for 2015 to get some more!
FBS is a dam good beer for the price point a well

I love IRS! It drinks well fresh and ages amazingly well too. It's definitely something that's usually around here despite it being a seasonal and even the Espresso version this year lasted for a lot longer than I would have assumed. One of my favorite beers.

Agreed on Espresso IRS -- but would also say that if I want to enjoy a bomber of a huge beer, Port Brewing's Santa's Little Helper is very nice too...

    Cheers!

I was going to post this almost verbatim but you beat me to it.:grinning: I bought one today (although in the middle of nowhere I can only dream of a 5.99 price tag on this) but that being said it was still a value and at 10 percent you get a lot of bang for your buck. I'm getting a much greater appreciation for this beer now that I have to conserve my money to a higher degree.

Personally I think Stone IRS is the best overall RIS in terms of quality/price/availability. I don't think even Old Raspy can beat it. It disappears around here somewhat quickly though, definitely not sitting on the shelf all year.

Stone IRS is undoubtedly a delicious brew, but if we're talking value, stingier buyers will still take pass. Bombers are almost uniformly a poor value.. even Expedition at $18 a six pack is cheaper dollar-per-oz. But I've been guilty of repeatedly buying bottles of Eclipse variants so I'll happily purchase Stone IRS. Cheers!

I currently have the espresso version at home. Will probably pop it open some more frigid evening within the next few months, but I feel guilty in saying that I actually haven't had either version yet. This thread makes me that much more excited to try it out. Also I would age it, but there wouldn't be any point without knowing what the non aged version is like.

Yeah, I'm not sure about economical, though yeah I don't get it for 5.99 that would be nice. Still even at that price, you're talking about a beer a hair under 20 bucks for a sixer.

If Stone IRS was twice the price it would still be worth it IMO. The lower price point is gravy to me.

It is annual, typically around tax season (IRS), so it's been gone from a lot of shelves for a while, but it's a great beer. I'm always happy to see it hit the shelves. I have some from years back still aging. It ages well.

People have mentioned Yeti, which is also awesome beer(s). I like it better than IRS, but Yeti is best fresh. That hasn't stopped me from keeping a couple of old (blue label - 2007) Yeti's for about six years.
