Ive been sitting at work craving stouts all day for about 5 days now. Its unusual for a dedicated pilsner guy to experience this. I love stouts, dont get me wrong, but Ive never had cravings like this for so long, exuse me,<sipping a Bells Kalamazoo>.

What can be going on? Can a guy my age "55yo" have their tastes change so dramatically so quickly?

I have a fridge full of Pilsners, Lagers, and wheats, but as this Stout is coursing thru my taste buds its all I can think about. I only have two left and didnt expect this last beer shop.

Kalamazoo is good, but try Founder's Breakfast Stout to experience stout greatness.

Wait till you get the craving for a sour. It's revelatory.

And yes, this happens. Frequently. What will be weird is you may drift away from lagers for a while and eventually you'll come full circle and appreciate them again. I think lagers are probably the most misunderstood and underappreciated beers on BA.

Bell's Cherry Stout is again available; picked it up today, bottled 10/08/13. They did not brew it last year due to poor cherry harvest; glad it's back.

Stouts to me are a once in a while kinda thing. They're usually too heavy to session. I see what you're getting at though. I'm a huge hophead, but sometimes I'll just be craving a hefe or belgian ale.

I have this all the time. Great style! I'm usually an IPA guy but i really do enjoy capping off the night with a solid stout! Cheers!

(Anderson Valley's Oatmeal stout or Ten Fidy are my go to beers to remedy this!)

I'm heading out tomorrow to pick some up. Looking forward to trying it for the first time. I used to homebrew a raspberry stout as my standard stout.

I've been craving RISs like crazy. And, I have a fridge full of DIPAs. It's driving me mad!

This happens to me when the weather starts turning cold, like today.

One Pretty Things Babayaga coming up.

I go through those cravings every day. I find it weird that I've been craving IPAs a bit lately though.

It could just be the change in the weather. Is this the first time you've had that particular stout?

Funny you mention raspberry - Founders also released a raspberry stout this year - Rubaeus - I've seen it on shelves but yet to try it. I'll take the plunge next time I see it.

As far as I know, Rübæus is just a raspberry fruit beer, not a stout of any sort.

Samuel Smith's Imperial Stout has a great yeast signature and balance, isn't too big, and you can have a few in a row- definitely one to look out for.

OP... you did say you were a "guy" so that rules out pregnancy cravings!:grinning: Then again, a bad thing for a pregnant woman to be drinking!

I love me a good Bell's Expedition Stout, usually one with at a minimum of 6 months on it. Preferably a year or more is better. Ten Fidy... tastes great, straight from the freakin can! New, old, whatever!

Ahhh...I stand corrected - did not pay close attention thanks for the clarification. But a raspberry stout sounds good.

Someone should brew a dark chocolate raspberry stout. The bitterness from the stout and dark chocolate would go great with just a hint of raspberry.

I'm a big hop-head, but am definitely enjoying a FBS with the wifey right now. It's good for the palate to mix things up a bit!
