Saw this in San Diego and thought it was ridiculous. Would anyone be willing to accept this mark-up?

That's about what some fools on this site want in trade value for it. Damn highway robbery either way.

Agreed, ridiculous but the sad thing is that someone else will probably buy it at the price. Is this a 2013? Even with the service charge that went with the release this is over a 100% mark up. Care to share where you saw it so I can never walk in that store again.

Wine Bank in Gaslamp Quarter. Might not be there anymore - they have quit a bit of Lost Abbey but at marked up prices. I gave it a pass, but by all means go for it if you have the finances.

I saw a store up in North County SD selling them for $90 a bottle. I don't care how good a beer is (and DDG is really good), I'd never pay that much for a single bottle. Even at $41 they were already too expensive.

If anyone knows any retail location in the rhode island/mass area selling DDG please let me know. $99 may be a ridiculous markup but it's cheap compared to what the "black market" websites charge for this beer. Honestly, I'd pay it. Supply and demand

Now I regret not getting any at the release. Want to know what the fuss is about.

Picked up 6 at the release. If I add in my 10 hour round trip, cost of a motel, cost of the fuel, cost of food, and last but not least, the cost of the DDG, I would say I probably have about 90 dollars a bottle invested. (And that's not counting my time spent sitting on my computer to get into the web site to place an order). So yeah paying that for a bottle is really not highway robbery if you weren't able or willing to invest the time and trouble to go get it yourself.

Good point, there were people from all over, that weekend to pick up their bottles. I met a few who drove a lot further than you.

If you went through all that you just described and feel that all you got out of it was some bottles of DDG, then you did it wrong.

Not what I said. I am stating that if all the costs for the time it took to get the beer are added in, then the cost for a bottle far exceeded what I paid for them. I go over to Lost Abbey several times a year even though I am fortunate enough to get their products here, because I enjoy being at the brewery and talking to all the other patrons and great employees there. What I was saying is that if you could not put in the time and effort to get a bottle or two like I did, do not complain about the price. I wanted DDG and was willing to put in the time and effort to do so. At 90 plus a bottle you are paying for someone else putting out the effort for you. Sheesh, that's the problem here, someone always thinking they know your intent. Never in my post did I state I was let down or disgruntled, or did not enjoy the experience. I was simply pointing out the total cost involved in obtaining the beer.

Let's see, just by way of example.......the last vintage released, the 2010, of Domaine Romani Conti Richebourg sells, as of the release date, for between $1,500 and $2,900 a bottle. That is the price that is paid for one of the best wines on the planet ON RELEASE. Moreover, it's actually hard to find (although the $2,900 bottle is right here in Los Angeles should anyone want it). Most of the wine world covets this wine and most of the production actually goes to places/buyers outside the U.S. (and primarily to China these days).

A bottle of DDG, one of the best beers on the planet, being sold on what is really the secondary market for $99 a bottle and a bottle that, literally, is virtually nowhere to be found for sale at a store (the examples cited are really anomalies) candidly, in my opinion....not a bad deal, especially if you were one of the several thousands that want to taste it and perhaps never will.

As has often been said on this site, it is a matter of personal value and personal resources. The DRC wine at $2,900 is cheap to some; yet, for others, (myself most included!) we could never do it. You get the point.

Summary: I'm not offended at the price. Most importantly, and as I've said several times before on the issue of comments on "price" and "over charging" and "too high," the bottom line is that if it's too high FOR YOU don't buy it.

Ddg was worth $45 for those willing to spend 4 workday hours in front of a computer and then drive to San Marcos at a specific day and time to get it. It can be argued that those willing to drop down the coinage can simply walk out of a store with it for double that price. That said, this particular site leans against 2nd market resales because it houses a trade forum which forbids money for beer transactions and the "trade value" of a beer is only applied to trading for other beers that are difficult to obtain.
Also- what if Lost Abbey held back bottles and sold them for $90 at the brewery? That would meet supply and demand but I doubt it would go over so well.

Lost Abbey had Sede Vacante bottles in the cooler for onsite only at their anniversary party, and they were sold out each session at $80. No one cared about that. I'm sure they will do the same with DDG.

I don't care about stores selling it. If you don't like it don't buy it.

I'm selling a PS4 for way more than I am going to pay for it. Don't see many frowning on that. Supply and demand!
