anyone heard when this will be released? i heard last year they will not be doing the spiced beer they have done in years before and it is one of my favorite Christmas beers! just curious if they are changing the entire profile for the beer and when it'll be released as winter seasonals are gonna start to roll out in full swing in the next couple weeks.

I saw it today in VA. The store had singles available as well as 6 packs.

Not a spiced beer this year? Hard to imagine changing that concept after 35 years.

The recipe changes every year, but it sounds like 2013 they wanted to get away from a variation of a winter warmer.

That's what worries me about this brew. One year its great, the next year not so much. I didn't try their christmas beer again til last year. I had a bottle in 08/09(?) and it sucked. Tasted like a spruce tree, but I had it recently and it wasn't so bad. Not sure if i'm willing to consistently buy a beer that is inconsistent haha.

A Christmas tradition. Different taste, different label--a little bit of surprise and anticpation in an all too exacting world.

I like that it is changed and have several from years past and break out one or two each year with friends.

I think it's a hit or miss every year. If I like it I usually purchase the big bottle. Regardless I drink a six pack when I first see it.

It was a bit dry with hints of Gingerbread and Molasses. It had a crisp spice finish with what everyone I was with thought was a hint of sourness. So short answer is yes.

A guy I work with says he buys the magnums of this every year and saves them. I have never had it before but from what I understand it seems like it would not really be a good candidate for long term cellaring. Thoughts?

If you live in southern PA, I work for their distributor and I can tell you sixth barrels are IN!!!! I have not yet tried it since it just came in draft, but I really liked last years and I'm hoping it is just as good if not better.

    Cheers!

How long have you aged this beer for with good results?
