Good morning growler ghouls and goblin goblets! I hope this message finds you ready for another Sunday of all things good, fermented, malty or hoppy in your flutes, steins, and snifters today!

Weather in Central OH is chilly but sunny. Got all the outside furniture put away yesterday as this last week of October looks to be chilly.

Word on the street is SN Celebration and the Sam Adams Winter mixed packs are slowly getting to shelves around here. Still see lots of "pumpkin everything" but I think winter seasonals are my most favorite.

I did manage to pick up some Victory Dirtwolf yesterday so that will be making an appearance here today I'm sure. I can assure you my description and review will be more complete than "tastes like dirt with hints of wolf" (tongue firmly planted in cheek). Which leads me to my weekly request/plea/begging to follow the simple guideline that has been in place for 452 weeks straight...

Kindly TRY a new beer and SHARE your thoughts here. A GOOD description is kindly requested for any new beer you sample today. A linked review is always a nice touch and some of our more tech savvy contributors round out the experience with pics and/or videos. If you're new to this thread sit back and watch the magic for a few rounds. You'll get the hang of it.

Also, if you feel so inclined, please send out some mad props to the Bros. They are the kind folks that have helped keep this weekly tradition going for so long. They also are quick to respond and help keep us focused when someone tries to derail our friendly virtual pub sharing experience. I raise a virtual pint in their westerly direction and hope to follow it up some day with an actual pint to express my gratitude.

    Good day and good drinkin'.

    Peace, love, and malty-ness,

    Matt

My new beer was Founder dirty Bastard. Was nice beer. After I drink a few more I may review it. Its a tad hoppy fresh but the label says 50 IBU. I loved the 8.5% for a 6 pack at 10.99, was a better deal than the 6.5% porter at the same price. I rather have more kick. I wish the porter was cheaper.:slight_frown:

In Tonya we trust! She's a kick-ass brewer. I've got one, haven't hit it yet.

Happy new Beer Sunday everyone. :grinning:

I am in good spirits as usual except for one small thing. I am a plant killer. I think I told you that I don't have a green thumb. I seem to have bought the only plant that does not like water and wants to die to spite me. I have a deiffenbachia and it has two different maladies at the same time. yellowing leaves from over watering and browning at the tips and edges from being too dry. ???

Beer is much easier to figure out. I tried Sly Fox's Tripel Incubus today and I like it very much. It had a tad too much spice and seemed to get stuck at the back of the throat with a little sticky heaviness. But other than that it was delightful. Had a fantastic high abv which I like and fills your palate with plenty of fruit, earth and spice. A delicate drink with a creamy body this is one to sit with and linger over.

I am gonna play the plant some music.

Hope you are all well and I look forward to all the posts today.

Great to meet all of you here on another great NBS thread! I enjoy reading about all the new beer everyone tries each week. I am starting to prep for the winter months as I look forward to the first snow fall. We had flurries early this week.
Today I am having a local brew that has aged about 6 months. The reviews are all over the place as this is a love/hate beer from Central Walters. I happen to really enjoy this BB Cherry Stout after letting it rest. The cherry and bourbon have faded nicely to compliment in with the chocolaty stout. I can image that it is over the top when fresh. I'll have another one to share later on! Cheers everyone; make it a great NBS!

Very decent pilsner, I admit to liking mine overhopped for the style(more like Noble Pils or Prima Pils), but it did go great with an afternoon bratwurst and was a nice variation on my typical beers.

    ***New Saison/Farmhouse Ale!!!

G'day Matt and to the rest of the NBS crew!

The temp could reach the mid 60s today but snow is forecast for the next couple of days.

My new beer today is the style I mentioned above mixed with Pumpkin & Squash. An interesting concept and the darn thing works!:

Next up, a fresh hop IPL, errr IPA. Chasin' Freshies has a nice Pilsener malt backbone and subtle citrus flavors from the Amarillo hops. It's a nice beer, and I was expecting it to be more of a hoppy Lager when I got it. Quite enjoyable on this sun splashed, clear blue sky, late October day in S. WI.

I agree. Some coffee forward Stouts lose the coffee over time but they pick up other rather desirable traits to replace it.

Where did you learn to put together plates like this? I would like to do something similar, but have no idea where to begin. So simple, but I imagine very delicious.

lol - thanks - I "browse" the "fancy" meat and cheese section in the grocery store when we shop. I get along real well with food (), and really dig the easy popular cheeses like brie, gouda or provolone, Italian-style cold cuts and meats, and accompaniments like olives and all that stuff. I just pick out some appealing things at the store. Everything just always seems to agree with each other.
The "plating" is just to please my eye.
Good pate - tastes like expensive, spiced liverwurst.

You really can't go wrong with hoppy/crisp/dry pale ales and these kinds of foods: IPA, APA, pilsener, some DIPAs, etc.
    :grimacing:\ Cheese is expensive!

    Cheers!

I have been reading NBS for a couple of years now and have finally decided that it is time for me to contribute. Love reading about everyone's recap of their day and new brew.

The weather in the Syracuse, NY area today is sun/clouds and 45F. Have not ventured out today since I am muddling through the tail end of some bronchitis, which is aparently spreading around here (so glad it decided to find me). Haven't had a brew in a week, and the senses might not be at 100% today, but here it goes:

Found a seasonal ale from Guinness and decided to Give it a whirl. GUINNESS RED HARVEST STOUT was on the shelves in four pack nitro pint cans. Pours in the glass like a typical guiness but the first difference of note is the color. Red hues line the edges of the glass. Not as much roast aroma as a regular guinness, but the head holds about the same. When held up to the daylight, the color is a clear dark red. Flavor is pretty bland and the body is very thin. You're not going to find anything in the way of hops, and the malt flavors are pretty muted. Don't think I would call this a stout - Guinness Red Harvest Ale would be more appropriate. Serves good as a light session ale and glad that I gave it a try. Sitting side by side with the original, I would pick the classic Guinness every time.

Good day and drinking to all!

    ****NEW STOUT SUNDAY****

Mid-50's and breezy but sunny here in SW Michigan. Treating myself to a new beer as a reward for leaf work, which generally consumes at least half a day of every weekend this time of year.

Mr. Hyde from Greenbush pours beautifully, nice medium roast coffee and malt aroma. Unlike some bigger java stouts, there's only moderate bitterness from the coffee that shows up mainly in the middle. Just a little sweet stickiness in the finish that fades surprisingly fast and clean for a milk stout.

My favorite coffee stouts are brutes that are capable of putting hair on one's chest. This isn't one of those, but enjoyable nonetheless. Cheers to all!

New American Imperial Stout Sunday (week 453)

Greetings NBS'ers. Just a bit of a chill to a morning of rescuing the recyclables and the reusables from the discardables, and sending them to their points of destiny. Tough week in general, one that requires a stellar beer of outstanding attribute to counterbalance, and this one is doing the trick. Could you only now be here with me to help with the last 6 oz.'s, but if you were you might need to have a gun and a crowbar to get it. Spectacularly delicious! Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!
