Victory Dirtwolf vs Lagunitas Sucks

everyone talks about how cheap dirtwolf is but if it were in six packs it would be $12.75 (assuming average $8.50 4pack = $2.13 per bottle).

 

Wow man...not an apt comparison...Dirtwolf is ok but nowhere near the level that Sucks is on...Enjoy By would be a better comparison...

 

DirtWolf is pretty good, albeit nothing special in my opinion. I kind of prefer Hop Wallop to be honest. Waiting waiting waiting on Sucks to come back out

 

The case price here in PA is almost identical. 4pks and 6pks are way over priced.

 

As for the "cat-piss" commentary, that is just a simplified explanation people have come up with to describe the particular character of certain hop strains. Much like "horse-blanket" has become a hot term in describing wild ales, though I SEVERLY doubt that any more than 2% of those who use the term have actually ever even *smelled* a horse's blanket, nevermind tasted it.

It's ridiculous, of course...just plain silly. Hops (yes, even Simcoe), do not smell like cat piss. They do, however, smell dank and resiny, which shares some characteristics of cat piss.

Whenever you see the term "cat-piss" in one of these forums, just take a step back and realize that it's somebody trying to sound cool or edgy by espousing something rancid and vile, not an accurate description of the beer's quality or characteristics

 

Dank. Please define dank. Because to me it's the same kind of term as cat piss.

According to the kids, dank is most frequently used to describe higher quality cannabis.

 

I bought my first Dirtwolf 4pack yesterday. Upon smelling and tasting, I immediately thought of my vacation to Vermont this summer. It's never been a secret of mine that Victory is my favorite brewery, but I feel like if this was a Hill Farmstead beer that people would be going apeshit over it.

 

Dirt Wolf wins hands down in my book. I did not find them all that similar. I will miss Hop Wallop but I do think DW is a step up from HW.

 

Had both last night. I think Dirtwolf is better, but, honestly, I don't think either of these beers are like super amazing. I'm surprised how nuts everyone is about these 2 right now. Like, I'm seeing these compared to Enjoy By and that's just shenanigans!

Hardly shenanigans! Maybe if you cracked an Enjoy By 4.01.13 right now you'd feel a little differently. The three beers you mention are certainly comparable. They are all excellent when fresh.

 

Well, like cat piss, I think it's another situation where we discuss something tasting like the way something else smells. In this case, I believe it refers to the way very good weed smells. A little skunky and a little pungent.

 

I agree. Hill Farmstead's beers are way overhyped. As I posted earlier, I had HF's Double Citra side-by-side with Dirtwolf, for comparison purposes, and the Double Citra is a good deal better. HOWEVER, many of HF's other beers are overrated by a point (or at least half a point) in my opinion

 

Still waiting for sucks, not gonna happen any time soon as We/I(SEPA) have yet to see brown sugga. Weak sauce. ( I know it's unfair to the overpriced under flavored pieces of pale ale that are supposed to be sold in my market nowadays)

 

WI still has not received any DirtWolf. I guess we have to first drink all the old Wallop that is collecting dust on the shelves.

I really noticed the cat piss smell in the dirt wolf. Literally held it up a couple of times before having a second sip. Personally "Sucks" is a few notches above the wolf
