    NEW IMPERIAL STOUT SUNDAY

Been a hectic few days but now I have some time to savor an absolutely perfect fall day. We hosted a brunch this morning and finally got to meet my oldest friend's new girlfriend. She is a peach and we are happy for them both. Now its time to sit in the sun and enjoy a divisive beer. The reviews for this one are all over the map, almost seems like nobody is reviewing the same beer. I am definitely diggin mine though.

    New English IPA Sunday

    Greetings NBSer's,
Happy Sunday to all the old regulars and special "hello's" to the several new NBS participants. This weekend brought the loss of Lou Reed (see above), but also the voice of Ms. Krabapple and the receptionist on the original Bob Newhart show - Marcia Wallace. Both brought great joy to my entertainment mind and will be remembered fondly by me. "Ha!"
Today is probably the last of the 60's here in these parts for a good long stretch. Fortunately we have the grand dog over for a bit so my wife and I can get out for a walk on a very nice late autumn day.

Starting a streak of what i hope will be all MN gems (not all will be gems) here for NBS. There appears to be several one off's hitting the shelves in the next few weeks, so I got that to look forward to. This one I'm hitting at the end of it's life, as Summit prepares to bring on Batch 14. Batch 13 is a nice drinkable English IPA, which Summit has done before and done well. A good drinkable beer that won't blow anyone away, but will be satisfying and somewhat familiar.

    Best to all this week.

***** NEW RUSSIAN IMPERIAL STOUT SUNDAY *******

    Greetings, NBSers

Beautiful, crisp, early fall day in the greater St. Louis area. Perfect weather for the Cardinals to take another World Series win!

Decided to try my first ever beer from New Zealand and it is a winner:

    NEW IPA TRIPEL SUNDAY !

Greetings everyone, from a beautiful Fall day here at the Jersey Shore. The weather has been quite nice and Fall-like all week. Today brings sunshine and a blue sky with some fair weather clouds, temps in the low 60s. The cirrus clouds could mean rain in a day or two, we'll see.

I, too, must note with sadness the passing of Mr. Lou Reed. I am fortunate to have had seen him perform a couple of times. One show from the early 1980s at the Capitol Theatre (now gone) in Passaic, NJ comes to mind. Without checking my ticket stub or doing a web search, I recall that Lou put together a "New York street music show". There was a variety of artists including Run DMC. I get a kick out of telling my daughter and her pals (all rap/hip-hop fans) that I saw a rap show "back in the day". Thanks, Lou. And how about that guitar riff in 'Sweet Jane', is that any good? As if.

    Let's not forget today's new beer, it's a dandy: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/321/27804/?ba=NiceTaps

And since it's Halloween week, I offer this dulce ballad. And I hope that these guys don't show up at my door for Trick or Treat. Yikes!

All the best to the NBS group. Cheers!

Yes, this one has a lot going on. Big Black Jack Imperial Chocolate Pumpkin Porter. Very seasonal however, but I don't think I would make it a regular deal.

Not a bad brew from the folks at Oakshire, of Eugene, Oregon, with a tip of the cap to the OSU Duck football team.

Cool and gray here in the Columbia Basin. Not much of interest on the NFL schedule until the Seahawks take the field tomorrow night. So the last mowing of the lawn until April, and a winterizing of the trusty mower was the order of the day. Now I'm just having this beer and waiting for my daughter to arrive with her PT Cruiser for its Fall maintenance appointment at Dad's Garage.

    Until next week,

    Happy Trails!

Greetings, NBS from the land of BBQ and great Tex Mex. Just enough chill in the air to make this an absolutely gorgeous day. I have a trunkload of Georgia beer at my disposal, thanks to my very kind and considerate family, who just returned from there. Currently, I have poured Terrapin Hopsecutioner into a tall Pilsner glass. Head retention is superb, with lacing crawling down the side at a slow pace. Color is a deep gold, maybe not as reddish as other IPAs. When I cracked open the bottle, I could smell the hops a mile away. Upon tasting, I find a nice balance between the malt and the hops. Very good beer. I look forward to another one.

Well, my sister got into town on friday afternoon. Super exciting. She brought with her a couple of LA area brews. Turns out St Louis has a lot of reallly really good food. Love it when she comes to visit and give me an excuse to get out and gorge myself on deliciousness.
Also, it turns out that there's this magical place called the City Museum, which is magically packed with magic and is the most amazingly magic place I've ever been. Seriously. Come here and go there. You will thank me. With multiple bars and enough twisty turny tunnels to get lost in and ten story slides to ride, and TWO PLANES TO SIT ON... well, my inner me being a kid was mad excited. Toss in a good little halloween party last night (Fry and Leela... and not in the order you'd think), and the zoo, and the Seahawks aren't playing today, so i get to go watch them tomorrow in person on monday night football! Pretty excited.
One of the beers my sister brought with her was Strand's Black Sand. Pretty tasty little IPA. Little distracted, so have a good weekend all and drink well!!

New Light Lager Sunday. (I think this is my first "light beer" review)

It's another great weekend in West MI. Spots of accumulating snow from mid-week have given way to more fall-like conditions.

The weekend included youth soccer, a birthday party, and zombie-themed run. While not the most competitive field, I have to say a nighttime run through a vibrant city is awfully cool.

I'm on day 10 of my beer-run streak (at least 1 mile and 1 beer per day), and feeling good. With today's run, and most other responsibilities, out of the way, it's time for a new beer.

Had the DirtWolf today from Victory. While I rated it "outstanding" I would not put it in the "world class" category. It hangs with local offerings like Columbus Brewing and Fat Head's IPA but it just doesn't get into the Double IPA range for me. Let the haters pile on. Very good, glad I had it. But I'll stick with other local faves.

    Cheers and Happy NBS!!

New American Porter Sunday (sort of)

Greetings NBS and Happy Halloween a little early,

Southern, CT is really showing signs of winter finally as the leaves are dropping quickly and the overnight frost is starting to hit. The weather has really been gorgeous though with bright starry nights to enjoy some good brews and the chill finally allows for some evening fires.

Yesterday was work day helping the in-laws and today was getting back to winter prep and pumpkin picking with the fam. To stick with the theme, I am sampling this great beer from Midnight Sun:

If you can get past the style guidelines and live in the blurry gray area, this beer is great.

Greetings from Louisiana, and I'm glad to be back after missing out last Sunday. With the family in town, I didn't get the chance to review anything new.

Today was a great day, as I got out to the Superdome for my first Saints game, a nice win over Buffalo! I passed on the $9 bud lights, but cracked open a new barleywine, Old Foghorn, this evening. Solid beer that I'm glad I finally tried, but it is definitely no bigfoot!

Howdy all you NBSers. This is my first appearance in a few weeks, but I'm a busy man. Actually, last week I was ill. I'm all better now and I am excited about the beer I'm drinking this week. You can read all about it here: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/21396/56542/?ba=offthelevel_bytheplumb

I'm going to follow up on cavedave's lead and pay my respects to Lou Reed as well. This one is the first song from the first album I bought by the Velvet Underground back when I was 14, although it would've been better if I posted this earlier.

    Have a great week guys!
