I know, they have had consistency problems, and there has been turnover in the brewmaster department, and they have had quality control issues, especially with kegs that were purchased from China. But this beer is now in Bryan/College Station, and whatever "batch' it is, it is amazing. My "go to" hop fix beer for the last month. Great body and great tropical/citrus/pine aroma and taste. If they can consistently make every 6 pack like the eight or so I have purchased, they have a big winner. I'm surprised it doesn't get more buzz.

I love Deepn Ellum IPA. Their Kickstarter thing was dumb but their beer is still great IMO.

Ive had a their IPA a few times. Never enjoyed it. Apparently I get bad cans? Whatever, I have no real drive to buy their product with their reputation and what I have tasted....

Agreed. I have no desire to ever buy anything from DEBC again after the Beer Legislation debacle. Also, with all the other great IPAs that are now available in Texas there is no need to buy their product again.

We need Lone Pint to start bottling/canning their beers. Mmmm Yellow Rose.

They are going to have to date the cans for my to try it again. The 6 pack I bought awhile back was a malty mess.

I send this as an extra to a trading partner that loves it. I've only had their stuff on draft, though. I prefer their rye offerings, Rye Pils and Dreamcrusher.

It would be nice if they dialed this beer in. Was great the first two times I had it, but hasn't been consistent or really enjoyable since. Tried it recently at Whole Foods and thought it was just all-around plain. I've fully converted to Community Mosaic for my local hop fix.

Yes! Community Mosaic is phenomenal. Still yet to really enjoy a single DEBC offering. (They sure throw a hell of a lot of money at design and glassware. Wish you could taste that same investment in their product.)

What have you tried(not picking, just last post)? I think they are second behind Peticolas in Dallas. In in the top 10 of Texas.

    (from a Dallas pov)

Temptress is great, but the 'Legendary' series has been anything but (I will still try anything Lakewood puts out, Temptress is top notch). I tried Gourdzilla tonight, not a huge fan. But Numb Comfort is one of the better DFW beers imo, and Pollinator, Wealth&Taste, plus others are pretty dang good and interesting(where is Drew now?). I try all 4 Corners and Community I come across. Its good, but I personally think they are still behind some of the stuff DEBC/Peticolas has done.

Im not one of the DEBC Bros, but for a community that supposed to support local craft, I dont get the DEBC hate. I write off the ownership moves(dbag and legislative), and just enjoy the beer. John should fade into the background forever, but there are some good people there. And good beer. And support of (real) local beer, like Labor of Love event, which had super growth from the first year.

Go to their events, and there are a lot of people really looking to get into the local scene who arent involved in these politics, and dont care. Not bros... people who are interested getting outside of BMC... Again, I dont get it. This should be a net positive for the community. I love Dallas, love DFW, and love Texas, and Texas Craft.

    -Cheers

PS. No Brewvoloution talk on these forums is odd to me also. Cant wait to see what Jester King is bringing, since I cant make F&S.

I was living in Dallas (Oak Cliff) when DEBC launched. I did some events with them at the shop where I worked, including the launch of their cherry stout, and I don't know: I felt like there was a lot of price gouging going on in those first moves, since they had the market to themselves, and they seemed more like a marketing machine than a brewery. Just put a bad taste in my mouth. They didn't strike me as very community-oriented.

But that's beside the point. I don't really know anything about their ownership, and I wouldn't care about any of it if they put out a product that did anything for me. I just think they make tepid, mediocre beer. And it's just frustrating to see how they dominate the market with slick packaging (and, yes, the bro culture surrounding it is just off-putting.) I've had just about every offering, I think, mostly on tap. Their wit (at Barcadia) was undrinkable; IPA (at Smoke and Bolsa) was fine, just totally middle-of-the-road; Dreamcrusher (at the Foundry) was incredibly salty and unbalanced.

But, I totally feel you! I don't want to be a hater. I keep trying them, because I want to support everyone. In fact, I just had their double brown stout at the Canned Festival in Denton. Thought it was gross :/

I like their IPA. The last few sixers I've bought have been real solid. It's one of the best Texas IPAs I can get easily. I might rank Stash a little higher though.

On a related note, I hope to get some of those Uncle Billy's Green Room IPA cans soon. That is a really good IPA. Cool can art too.

IPA is back in tap around Austin and is solid as hell again. First few kegs here were amazing then I had a couple bad experiences but after not seeing it for a bit I had it a couple weeks ago and really really enjoyed it again.

So a single good can means no consistency issues?

Agree with some of the other posters - the 6-pack I had of these was nothing special at all. Especially for 10 dollars. I'll stick to others I can get for 6.99 or 7.99 a 6 pack.

I have yet to try a standard IPA that really has any of the fruit flavors or 'juiciness' that come out in double IPAs. Is that just a nature of the beast thing or have any of you tried an IPA that can pull off the essence of a double IPA? My wallet would appreciate it.

I've had it multiple times from multiple sources, draft at a bar, can at a bar, can at home, draft at the brewery, etc.......one thing I've noticed is that the quality has gone up. The consistency is varied in the hop profile, but I have yet to have any of the aformentioned problems of which some have spoken. I think part of the variability has to do with the fact that they use a different hop combination in each batch, at least that was what Drew had posted on the forums a while ago when this issue was first brought up. In order to get the beer out to meet demand, they had to substitute different hops in for the original recipe, and thus, you have variation. Not the most optimal of solutions, but people clearly want the product, and they seem to be meeting the demand. Now, if things have changed since Drew posted this, especially since he has left the DEBC, it may be different. I like it, I think it's pretty tasty and even with the hop profile variability, it's still a solid IPA. However, in the end, everyones' palates are different.
