    Hey all,

I'm going to send a trade package with NC's best year-round brews, or at least good local seasonals that are around now.

I'm in the Durham/Chapel Hill area. I'm definitely going to put in a Duck Rabbit Rabid Duck (or two) and a DR Barleywine (or two).

What other suggestions do you have? I'm trying to keep the whole thing under $30, so feel free to recommend an allocation based on that.

Maybe an Olde Hickory Imp Stout, too?

OHB Impy Stout will run you $11-12 ... gonna take up a big chunk of your budget. I've never actually had it, but I hear it's a pretty good beer. I'm in a locals BIF and will likely toss in one of those and an OHB Irish Walker. You can't go wrong with a bomber of People's Porter ... $4 for a damn good porter.

See, I've been too excited to try everything else since I started drinking craft ~5-6 months ago that I haven't had enough local stuff.

Vncent would say Fullsteam IGOR, although I don't think it's in bottles.

Aside from some of the previous suggestions...DR Milk Stout, Highland Gaelic or Oatmeal Porter, anything from Olde Hickory (Imp stout is good, but if you're shooting for something cheaper, hickory stick stout is good and cheaper), something from Lonerider (I like Sweet Josie Brown)

Foothills Hoppyum is a pretty good ipa and really easy on the wallet.

The Duck Rabbit RIS and Barleywine are both below-average beers. I wouldn't advise sending those to anyone. Instead, go with the OHB Impy Stout, Irish Walker and Seven Devils. Throw in the Foothills BBL Porter and a Green Man Dweller Imp Stout, if you can find one.

To bad that Fullsteam doesn't bottle Hogwash (although you can pick up growlers). The inhouse hickory smoked malts are the what craft brewing SHOULD be about. As for Duck-Rabbit, in my lowly opinion; are well above average and thier Schwarzbier is of a world class level, competing easily with any from the mother land.

Not beers, but Duck Rabbit and Mother Earth have some great snifters. Olde Hickory also has some nice glassware.

Duck-Rabbit snifter (either the original or the newer version) are my go-to glasses for a tasting. I don't have a ME snifter, but I've seen 'em and they look pretty sweet!

Thanks for the kind words! We hope to bottle Hogwash in the fall in 22oz bombers.

    Cheers,

Thanks for the great suggestions. Care package of 12 local brews I just finished packaging included

Mother Earth Wit, Dunkel, IPA, and Kolsch
LoneRider Peacemaker, Sweet Josie, and Shotgun Betty
    Highlands Lil' Hump and Thunderstruck
    Big Boss Bad Penny
Duck Rabbit Milk Stout and Rabid Duck

Old Hickory Imperial Stout, Irish Walker and Mother Earth Triple Overhead are what I'd throw in from stores right now if this was best in local trade I suppose. Already sent a BBA People's Porter that way, else the People's Porter would be in that list.

I love how this thread got 6 responses in 10 days, and then 11 in 5 minutes hahaha

I already sent out the package that was my reason for starting this thread. Still a beneficial thread for others, apparently, regardless.

    FWIW, I sent out:
Foothills: Hoppyum, People's Porter (couldn't find any BBL around)
OH: Imp Stout; Death by Hops
    Lone Rider: Josie
    Duck Rabbit: Barleywine; Rabid Duck
    Highland: Gaelic, Oatmeal Porter
I can't remember the 12th beer; might have been DR Milk Stout.
Plus 2x Two-Hearted to round off the 12, since the guy doesn't get Bell's regularly.

Also, I'm slowly working through the DR beers, but I've been pretty unimpressed with the Milk Stout and Porter. The Milk Stou had a persistent sourness, and a bunch of reviews mentioned it, too. But I'm going to give the Rabid Duck and Barleywine a shot, for sure.

Please make it so, and make it reasonably priced! I've only had a few of your beers, but Hogwash is far and away my favorite so far. :grinning:
