Here's the scenario, one of my wife's bosses just hooked us up with a really nice bottle of wine. I'd like to reciprocate with a nice beer. He likes beer, but more often than not when he's with friends, they all want Pliny, Alpine or something. He likes them ok, but is really more of a wine guy. So I thought of maybe a bottle of Cismontane's The Mesa, or Anchorage Bitter Monk. One of my coworkers who's also heavily into wine suggested a quad because "wine drinker's look for complexity". Not a bad suggestion, except he's the one who gave me my bottle of Westy 12.

So yeah, i'm just curious as to what y'all think.

Depends on what kind of wine he likes to drink, but you can just hand him some Rodenbach.

How about a bottle of Cantillon? Perhaps one of their fruited ones.

A bottle of HF Anna would be great for this.

This is why I age Three Philosophers. It is great having a bottle with a couple years on it to pass along to someone.

La Roja, Sofie, Festina Peche, La Follie, Rodenbach Grand Cru, maybe even something Belgian but approachable like Rayon Vert. I feel like a quad would just kick him in the head if he's not used to drinking beer.

I suppose it depends on how nice a bottle of wine, but Utopias could work for you.

You mean it would be too strong in terms of alcohol? I primarily drink wine, and when I drink beer I find I can drink a hell of a lot more than most beer drinkers.

No, I understand they'd be alright with ABV, I just meant taste wise. It's probably mostly me but I find bigger Belgians to be somewhat abrasive and might be off-putting to non beer drinkers because of the dark fruity/malty tastes. Then again if he's an experienced wine drinker then I suppose he would be acclimated to "sippers" and heavy fruit tones. In my head I was just thinking that quads have no real crossovers with wine taste wise. Still, I see what you're saying.

My recommendation would be a 750 of Goose Island Sofie.

Wild yeast fermentation coupled with wine barrel aging makes this a no-lose proposition.

Ehh, I personally think this one is way over the hill at this point. The last few bottles I have sampled are nowhere as good as it used to be.
