Buy seasonally that way you get the newest freshest beers and don't have to screw up your eyesight looking for date son bottles. keep up with new releases so that you will recognize them when you see them. Buy anything that strikes your fancy and try all the styles. Look to the sixpacks for your staple beers and that way you will try what the brewer thought was worthy beer. Buy a few expensive bombers but not as many as you would like. Enjoy tripels. I do. :sunglasses:

Not sure where you are located in NC but in the Triad we have had a couple of bottleshares organized in the last couple of months and that is a great way to meet some other local BAs and try some really interesting stuff. Shoot me a message if you are in the area and I can hook you up with the facebook group for it.

You're not alone, brother I don't like IPAs either. I'm sure people will say I'm wrong but I can't see that changing.

Anyway, welcome to an interesting group. As you will further discover, info is all over the place and sometimes very useful. I've had a great time learning here, and snarkasm is just off of the back for most of us. Every day I look forward to my forays into this ether. You will encounter beer people of every stripe. Go get an Aventinus and call in the morning. Cheers.

Introduce yourself to the guy that runs the local bottle shop. Tell him him about yourself and what you have liked. Go in when it is not busy and chat a bit. Buy a mixed sixer or some bombers that he/she recommends. Then go back. Pay .50 to a buck more than the Total Wine or whatever nearby. Become a customer and that person will take you along a fun journey. Never take it too seriously.

Don't get hung up on reviews and ratings. If something interests you, try it and make up your own mind being as objective as you can. Don't give in to the hype. Sometimes it is warrantred, other times not so much. Good point about not building up inventory, especially seasonals. Nice thing about seasonals is guess what that season will come around again. Don't stress and get all rabid about chasing stuff down. Don't forget the locals....bright lights and big city aren't always better. Research and learn about styles, plenty of resources available.

You are in NC, yes? Find a Nascar shop that is having a yard sale and pick up a used fire suit...nah...it gets a little snarky from time to time but not too rough.

Mostly though...have a beer, browse and read, and enjoy. Welcome aboard.

visit local breweries. there are some very good good ones here in NC. it makes for great day trips. asheville is a great beer town with cool "beer tours". also, visit brewpubs. most of the time, where good beer is served, good food is served. check out The Busy Bee in Raleigh. Great place.

proceed with caution. this isn't coors light we're drinking. some of this stuff will knock you flat on your back and it will be expensive to do so!!!
