    BAs,

I recently moved to Santa Barbara from Dallas, Texas. I've had the pleasure of drinking Alpine Beer a few times, and I've been to the brewery. Awesome place.

I'm really wanting to buy their bottled beer on a more regular basis, without having to drive 8 hours round-trip. Do any of you know of shops in the LA area that stock their beer? It would save me time, and gas money. I'm absolutely willing to drive 4 hours round-trip.

    Thanks for the help!

I haven't seen alpine IPA's in LA for a long time. I have on occasion seen Captains stout and Irish red but I highly doubt that's what you're after.

haven't seen any in a while around here. Alpine is supposed to start contract brewing with Green Flash so hopefully that increases their presence in the area

For the three year rounds (Pure, Duet, and Nelson), it's very sporadic at best. You'll rarely ever see more than one of them in the same store at the same time. Also, most, if not all bottle shops will impose a one bottle limit on those three beers. Once the bottle shops post on social media that they got some in, they're gone in hours. So, unfortunately, it's not practical for you to drive to LA for Alpine. Hopefully, the increased production at Green Flash will mean more bottles for us in the near future.

Wally's in LA had Mandarin Orange and Captain Stout last time I was there.

In my post, I assumed OP was looking for Pure Hoppiness, Duet, and Nelson.

If you are interested in other Alpine beers, I do see them more regularly, like Alpine Ale, Captain Stout, Mandarin Nectar, Willy, and McIlhenney's Irish Red at various places around town.

For the three core IPAs, they’re nearly impossible to find even in SD these days. Brewery is the only reliable spot to get them (and even then they’ll on occasion run out of Nelson bottles). You might already know this, but if not keep in mind that the brewery closes earlier than the brewpub, the latter of which has very limited number of bottles. Still, more than once I’ve gone out there just for some BBQ and a couple pints of Nelson… =)

I see a lot of people from LA in line every time Alpine does a special release.

vendome in toluca lake gets some alpine from time to time... but its just so rare and random.

we should all chip in and start an alpine expansion fund so they build a bigger brewery... it'll make the world a better place

You think this is about money?

You need to pay more attention to Alpine happenings, I think. Start with their Facebook page.

Your assumption was correct...especially about Nelson. Delicious, peppery Nelson.

I'm not even gonna hold my breath for the Chez, Great, any of that stuff. I KNOW I have to go there if I want a chance at those.

you're right, i know it's not a money thing. maybe i shoulda said we should all chip in, hire a hypnotist to hypnotize the owner into expanding. better?

That would be more likely to work.

I don't think they were giving that prospectus out for laughs a couple years ago. I think it definitely had something to do with the raising of money.

You generally need to drive to Alpine to get Pure Hoppiness, Duet and Nelson. They post what they have available on their Facebook page, so keep an eye on that. I usually only go when I know I can get all three.

Last time I was there they had changed their bottle limits from four to three each, so that sort of sucks when investing a four hour round trip, but they have to do what they have to do I guess. I usually hit up the pub for a couple of pours, then grab my bottle supply.

Whole Foods occasionally gets Alpine in as well ... a friend of mine got a bottle of Nelson a couple of months ago at the El Segundo location (and it is still sitting in his fridge, which is a shame, LOL). They sometimes hide the good stuff in the back so you always need to ask.
