Mushrooms? Gee, I don't know but I would taste it just to see. Who was it that did the tomato saison that people said was really good?

I think you could get a really good, earthy flavor from the mushrooms if done right.

but since I've never heard of a mushroom beer before, I guess right is subjective. could just taste like dirt and...mushrooms.

also, I wish it had a more Tolkien-esque name. mushroom beer sounds like something dwarves would drink.

I enjoy mushrooms, but to me this sounds as bad as that pizza beer. I love pizza, and a beer to wash it down, but they need to stay 2 different things.

I was at Troegs last night and had it. Actually not bad. I absolutely hate mushrooms and this beer didn't smell or taste like them at all. But none the less is interesting brewing with mushrooms. Definitely give it a try. Also, their Splinter beer, which is only sold and consumed on site was awesome. Enjoy!

There must be something the brewer thinks mushrooms will add to his beer. I wonder what that is.

Regardless of the ingredient, I usually taste before commenting because for me preconceived perception and reality don't always mesh. I heard from people that tried the Wynkoop's Rocky Mountain Oyster Stout that it was pretty good.

I was at an Oktoberfest a few years back at my bosses house, and since he is an active part of the local homebrewing society and mushroom foraging society, there was a mix of these two groups there. Another guy who was in both brought a small keg of a belgian porcini ale made with dried porcini he had picked himself . The delicious savory flavor of the porcini didn't transfer well. It was just a slightly earthy belgian.

So any actual opinions? On the actual taste of the beer.I haven't done any research on the beer but was it actual mushrooms in the beer (i.e. dry hopped or in the boil) or like a funky fungus derived from mushrooms in the yeast :astonished:

I love mushrooms and could see it adding an earthy and rich quality to the beer. I could see it being a good addition to a malt forward beer.
