Good morning Daylight Saving Dopplebock drinkers! I hope this message finds you ready for another Sunday of all things good, fermented, malty or hoppy in your nonics, yard glasses, and perfect pints today!

Weather in Central OH is deliciously fall-like with overcast skies, cool air, and wonderful colors painting the landscape. We have a full-on winter beer assault here as well. Already had SN Celebration (bottle and tap), the Sam Adams Winter mixed pack hit the shelves (what happened to the Holiday Porter???), and the much over-hyped Great Lakes Christmas Ale is flying off the shelves (the opinions expressed here may not reflect the true feelings of the general public).

Enough discussion about stuff I've already had. TODAY is the day to talk about NEW beer. This is the day and the forum to discuss all the new adventures you will take today as you explore something new to you. Please grab a new beer, TRY it, and DESCRIBE it here. We want to share in your thoughts, feedback, discussion about whatever is ending up in your pint glass today. A good description gets things started. Linked reviews are always appreciated and pictures, videos, assorted inter-web wizardy is always welcome. If you have any questions about how this gig runs please review posts from any of the previous 453 weeks and check out some of our regulars who bring it strong every week (you know who you are!)

    Good day and good drinkin'.

    Peace, love, and malty-ness,

    Matt

Hi Matt and all the NBS regulars. I hope there are lots of new faces joining this thread today as it's one of my favorites. Cheers!

Ok down to brass tacks. Thank you jzeilinger for giving me some narwahl. I like to do a nice stout on Sunday as you know. I thought it was just ok. It had almost no sweetness on the palate at all so it drank bitter & the mouthfeel was slick and thin to boot. It sorely needed some nice dark fruits like raisins or dried plums or something to give it any kind of sweet taste and it needed some thickness from malt . There was some alcohol on the palate and it wasn't just boozy, it was uncomfortable.

Well if I don't go against the grain at least once a week I feel like I am slipping. Happy Sunday everyone.

PS - I just ordered that book on beer tasting by randy mosher because I want to know more.

I've held on to this bottle of Sweetwater Motor Boat as long as I could, in anticipation of NBS. The last holdout from a 12 pack sampler brought back from Georgia by my lovely family. Described as an ESB, it's poured into a Guinness pint glass. Color is a deep brown, almost mahogany, head fizzles kinda quickly to about a 1/16th of an inch. Good lookin' beer. I let it warm for a while. Initial taste reminds me of Fuller's, but not quite so complex. Fruity, sorta like fresh figs or plums. Bready, a little malty, not hoppy whatsoever. Slightly watery, but just ever so slightly. Not bad at all. Not great lacing (which I like) but there is some. I could definitely drink a few of these at a Braves or Falcons game. Anyhoo, this a pretty dam good beer, and I'm upset that I only have Hopsecutioner left as a reminder of GA. (My son drank the other two Motorboats before I had the chance to try it).

Good day, Matt and BA. My new thing is getting a beer and "cellaring" it, so to speak, until I can review it on NBS.

Greetings fellow NBSers! A sunny morning here in the Fourth Corner, after some typical PNW November weather yesterday, 40+MPH winds and hard, steady rain most of the day. Looks like Gore-tex season is back! I had several new brews last Sunday, but I couldn't connect to the web at my usual NBS bar, so my participation was non-existent.

I'm going to fudge the rules just a wee bit, as I want to give a shout-out to a fellow NBSer who hooked me up with a growler of a great brew that my friend Justin (BA OKComputer) and I knocked off yesterday afternoon:
http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/18168/76248/?ba=beertunes . I should be back later with a couple of proper NBS entries, Cheers all!

So it's November. I spent this morning putting up the large plastic storm windows on our screen porch. It's time to enjoy something delicious. I guess I have transitioned hard into the heavier beers. Today I find myself enjoying something not found in WI, a Yeti. This big, bold Oatmeal Yeti is fantastic. Notes of roasted malts, bitter chocolate, and dark fruits make it a joy to savor on a cool fall day. I'll stop back in to see what others are enjoying. As always, make it a great NBS!

I'm traveling for work so I get to find beers not available to me in MI.
So far I've had a 21st Amendment/Elysian He Said Pumpkin Tripel. I don't get much pumpkin out of it, it's very faint. That said I think it's a good Tripel nonetheless.

Hoping to have some Pliny for the 1st time! I saw someone check it in on Untappd at World of Beer last night so that's where I'm heading shortly

New American Session Ale Sunday (week 454)

Greetings NBS'ers from a chilly day on the ridge in Mid Hud Val NY. Bell's calls this a session beer, but it is listed as a Berliner. Either way it is delicious. Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass. Cheers!

    New English Brown Ale Sunday

    Greetings NBSer's,
Even with all the holiday beers showing up I'm going for a beer named for the autumn. It fits as this is one of the longer falls I've experienced in these parts. Typically by Nov. only the oaks are holding onto leaves and we still have very colorful maples around town. It's kinda' nice, but a little deceiving. Warm today, but really windy, and I find it unpleasant to be outside when it's windy. It's also knocking all those colorful leaves down.

Which leads to my new beer aptly named Leaf Raker Nut Brown Ale. This is a nice robust brown ale and a pleasure to drink.

Best to all this week and I wish a good November to all. A month I've grown to appreciate as I've aged.

A nice fall day in SoCal with temperatures in the upper 60's, so I thought it would be a perfect time to try my first pumkin beer of the year.

*Note: drink this beer cool instead of cold, as the spices and sweet goodness comes out more*

Great looking beer with a rich caramel color with a light tan head. Aroma is mostly clove, nutmeg and belgian yeast with a hint of cinnamon. Cinnamon becomes more apparent as the beer warms along with some sweet dark fruit and caramel. Flavor is a spicey caramel belgian style pumkin ale. Great nutmeg and clove flavor. Sweet caramel and stone fruit taste as well. The pumpkin flavor is more of a sweet caramel/toffee malty sweetness and not actual pumpkin.

Very good pumpkin ale and glad I have a fair amount. Perfect for fall with all the spices. The west coast is diffently inferior when it comes to pumkin beers.

Well, the morning fog has totally cleared, and the sun is out, giving my little slice of the planet about 50 degrees of warmth. I ordered this brew thinking it was a Fest beer. Not so fast there! It was a pumpkin beer, which I wouldn't have ordered had I known. I gave it as fair a shot as possible, but after 4-5 oz, back to the bartender it went: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/193/98072/?ba=beertunes

Howdy to all you NBSers. It's a wonderful fall afternoon here in Chicagoland, as I am enjoying the outdoors in a short sleeve shirt. It's supposed to rain all week after today, so I plan on enjoying it. I am not busy with anything today for once, except I have plans to meet up with a good buddy of mine for the 3:00 game today (central time of course). He expressed his interest to me in exploring the world of beer and break away from his PBR. We shared some Founders Harvest Ale on Friday night and he was in love. I hope to pick him up another beer he will enjoy later on so I don't have to drink good beer alone anymore with my friends.

But until he comes, I have cracked open this bad boy. I'm surprised at myself for not picking this up before, because I thoroughly enjoy a good German pilsner. Here's what I thought of this one: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/124/1784/?ba=offthelevel_bytheplumb.

I'll be back later with some bigger and bolder beers that work much better close to bedtime.

    NEW BARLEYWINE SUNDAY

Greetings NBS'ers everywhere! Kind of a bittersweet day today. The whole family met in Philly for the Race For Hope to help raise money to fight brain tumors. We do this every year in memory of my Dad. It was great to see everyone but painful to be around so many thousands of people whose lives have been impacted by brain tumors. Lots of fight and optimism among the survivors though. Good for them and fuck cancer!

I'm home now enjoying a barleywine, a style my father loved. This one might not have been his cup of tea, he liked 'em sweet and boozy. Getting harder to find new b-wines though, so I went with this one. Here's to you, Pop.

Tunes, sounds like you need a safe word with the bartender from here on out to preclude any more accidental pumpkin-ing: "I'll have the ______. An excellent choice sir, but you should GOURD your loins for this one. Ah in that case, I'll be having something else!"

    also, sick new avatar. Cheers!!

In all fairness, it happened at 2 different bars. And the new avatar came from my FB feed yesterday. It's the Tuskeegee Airmen from WWII. First Black Pilots in Americas milatary, and the Squadron that never lost a plane that they were escorting. I'm a huge admirer.
