Potential Bad Trader Advice

    Not willing to publicly out the bad trader just yet, but I made a trade with him back in early August. I was to receive LC3 and Saison Brett for others. I sent my box, he received it with no problem. First, he didn't have the money to ship, then he got trades mixed up. Finally he shipped, but the package was damaged and allegedly destroyed by Fed Ex. He asked for some time to get replacement bottles, towards the end of September he said he got the bottles. He still hasn't shipped, sent a BM stating I was going to a bottle share a few weeks ago and was hoping to have the bottles by then. He said not a problem...nothing. Now I've sent several more requests and no response.

    I understand it sucks that the package broke, but I feel like I shouldn't be the one to lose out based on his poor packing skills. He enjoyed the beers I sent him, but I got nothing in return.

    still hoping that he does the right thing, considering he allegedly still has my beer...although I saw on Untappd that he drank a LC3 last week.

    I agree. Especially since you're getting ignored now. Out the person and spare the rest of the community from getting in bed with them.

    The trade was agreed upon three months ago.
    He told you over a month ago that he got the replacement bottles.
    He hasn't responded to multiple messages since.
    You saw on Untapped that he's drinking the beer you sent him.

    I think the time for "doing the right thing" is past due.

    He's drinking the beer he is supposed to send me. He drank the bottles I sent him a long time ago. He's not a big active member in the community, so it's my fault for agreeing to the trade with him...although everyone started at some point (me not that long ago).

    Thanks for the heads up.

    When in doubt think about it this way...

    You are getting screwed around, you can see that.
    Are others in the same boat with the same person?

    If you out the person, they may come back and make excuses ( see newkidaroundhere thread ) but if they were going to ship to you, they still will.

    If you do not out them, they may be finishing up current ripoffs or starting with new traders until they get called out.

    There is too much worrying about stepping on bad trader's toes.

    If this turns out to be a bad trader case, we can look at applying this to the user as it occurred before the feedback system launch. Keep us posted.

    Did you get a phone number and email address? Rule #1 for me now is to always get one or both of those. If a potential trading partner won't give you them, walk away.

    And never trade with someone who has been on here for 2+ years and has 5 POSTS! Did you check/ask for any trade references? If not, you did this all wrong, and hopefully will learn from it going forward.

    And if he drank the beer he was supposed to send you, YOU'RE NOT GETTING IT!

    He is someone that I spoke with on Untappd numerous times, we had lengthy BM conversations before, and he is friendly with someone that I have traded with in the past. I definitely could have done better looking into him, but being a new trader myself, I didn't feel like I had much pull to make demands.

    I can live with being out the beer (although I did love LC3 and wanted another), but it sucks because it has soured me from trading. I haven't made a trade since this deal has fallen apart, where since I've started doing trades I was doing 1-2/month.

    Im in the same boat as you. Setup a pre - trade involving Darkness.

    Deal was that because it was a pre-trade he sent me a box of Surly can's which he did. Then was supposed to send a 3 bottles of Darkness. Haven't heard from him since mid sept. I Bm'd 8 days ago and then yesterday. No response. starting to get a bad feeling.

    Darkness Day is getting much bigger and they allotted for 1500 wristbands to buy the brew then sold the few extras later. Your trader may have not gotten any since thousands of people showed up. Hope you get your end of the deal. Keep us posted on the outcome. Cheers!

    I've had no problems sending first when it makes sense(first couple trades). I plan to make any other people new to trading do the same to be safe.

    The worst part is that he showed logged on yesterday at like 10am. that would piss me off the most.

    If a dude rips me off I will buy a plane ticket and go get it....I am not kidding. For me its the principle of the matter and not the beer at that point.
