Seriously, why do Lost Abbey and the Bruery insist on spending years of futility on horribly managed online bottles sales? Alesmith rocks, I got on BrownPaperTickets and got my bottles in a couple of minutes vs hours from those other guys.

Now I hope my liver is still functional after Beer Week to drink one of these bottles...

Does anyone know if this is the exact same batch that was released earlier in the year along with VSS? Just wondering if this saw longer time in barrel or if they had some leftover from that release.

It is the latest batch that was served at the GuildFest on Friday night. Delicious, heavy on the bourbon and not syrupy sweet or thin or anything like that. Not as overblended as last year's batch seemed to be, a little more booze than the early 2013 bottles.

While I applaud Alesmith outsourcing their special releases to a website that's been purpose-built, comparing to DDG and BT isn't a fair comparison. There's no way that any of the Alesmith releases have seen anywhere close to the same amount of traffic that those did. BPT did fail when KBS was released earlier this year, so it's not like it's infallible.

I brought this up to a friend who works for The Bruery. It's not as simple as I wish it was.

Bruery BT went super smooth last year when it was pick up only. And they allowed trustees unlike Alesmith which is probably a bigger factor. And the pickup window is bigger which kept me out of this BASS sale

Yeah, I assume BPT isn't the sole reason the sales go so smoothly. Whatever factors Alesmith has going (pickup rules, no trustees) seems to work great. Previous BPT releases of their stuff was selling out in minutes so the website seems to be able to handle it pretty well.

I thought the earlier batches from this year were very boozy, actually. I'm actually surprised people saw it the other way around.

I bought the max available at every BASS release since 2007, then I was a little underwhelmed with last year's release (too much non-BA in the blend) so I only bought two bottles of the release earlier this year. After trying one of those bottles and realizing it was a return to form, I went back to the max with today's offering.

These releases are so easy. I purchased the max allotment and received the confirmation email in under four minutes. I find it strange that other breweries don't use the same method for releasing limited, high demand beers. I'm not sure what the difference in traffic is between this and LA or Bruery's sites during these releases but it's interesting that they need to do stress tests and their sites crash for hours when they sell through their own sites. Last year, BA Kopi sold out in less than ten minutes so it seems like brown paper can handle heavy traffic.

Went on BPT and considered ordering a bottle or two yesterday but I am too broke to justify it :slight_frown:

If it weren't SDBW I would've bought more, but I can only afford one bottle.
