Wonder if we'll get gouged to the tune of 15 bucks a bottle in Pensacola again? Rest of the state was around 8. If it isn't in line, I'll pass again. And it will sit on shelves all over town... again.

They are coming out a lot faster nowadays so I'm won't be buying tons of any one batch anymore. The most I've ever gotten of one batch mind you was probably a 64oz. growler and 2 bombers (the 10.25.13 I think?) but from now on, I'll probably just get a pint while I'm at the company store and two bombers to take home from each batch and call it good.

Then again, all bets are off if they get rid of the onion!

$6.99 at Total Wine here when it came last time. Look for a place that won't rip you off.

The entire state of Minnesota seems to be ripping me off...I'd rather just not buy it either way.

Enjoy By is a delicious imperial IPA, but I'm losing the compulsion to buy each new batch that comes out. Partly because I have too many beers currently and need to do a better job of drinking down what I have rather than buying new.

But more, I think it's because the psychology of thinking each new release is different has worn off. The changing dates make my brain think that it's a new beer that I need to try each release, when in reality, it's the same beer each time. I've recently had the 7.4.13, the 9.13.13 and the 10.25.13, but in reality, I've just had three runs of Enjoy By--they just happen to have their 'best by' date printed as the main label.

Great post! I am in 100% agreement with you. Although, like all beer, some batches are better than others. My favorite so far has been 5.17.13 and this past one, 11/12/13.

The last 2 or 3 of these that made it to CT have been onion bombs. It is not the same beer every time. I loved the April and May ones.

The recipe--meaning type and quantity of hops and malt used--is the same for each release. People will perceive what they perceive, but he only possible differences from batch to batch would be due to changes in the characteristics of the ingredients used, i.e.--if one batch used a different haul of Amarillo (or Simcoe or Delta or Target) hops and that haul had a particular difference in flavor.

But I remain skeptical that there are any significant or overtly perceptible differences in taste. Unfortunately, there isn't a way to do a blind taste test of say, 10.25.13 vs. 11.12.13, given the time factor involved. If there was, I think it would be nearly impossible for people to tell a difference.

It would be somewhat like someone thinking every single bottle of a Stone IPA (or Stone Ruination or Stone Levitation etc...) tasted different because they were brewed in different batches. These brewers--especially one with as large an operation as Stone--go to great pains with quality control to ensure that every [label name] beer tastes like every other [label name] beer. Otherwise, there's not much point in labeling them at all.

I'm still of the mind that any perceived difference between batches of Enjoy By is predominantly psychological, rather than empirical.
