IPA/Stout Day, what's the point?

Stout Day was on November 8th, and IPA Day was on August 1st. These are the two styles of beer which I am aware that have their own special day in the sun. The idea of these respective days is to drink to that and only that style of beer, and that will raise awareness of said style. How exactly? I raise awareness by drinking beer, regardless of style. And why these dates? Were said beer style created on these days, or born out of the image of a bored personality?

I love a number of different styles of beer, IPA's and stouts included. I do my part and taste a number of different beers and styles, may it be a pale lager, porter, or gose. Do I need an arbitrary day to tell me when its time to drink a particular style of beer? I just don't see the point of <insert beer style here> day, especially when IPA and stout are two of the most well known styles among beer geeks (and whom also seem to be the only ones to even know about IPA/Stout Day). Just as a Bentley doesn't need spinning rims to be noticed, IPA and stout are doing just fine on their own (and growing in popularity regardless) and don't need help.

(P.S. I suspect someone will take a look at my beer ratings and see that I wrote a review of Mikkeller Milk Stout on November 8th and call me a hypocrite. Yes, wrote on the 8th. I drank that beer on the 7th.)

I don't think Stout day or IPA day are about raising awareness for either of the beers, since (as you said) these are doing quite well on their own. I think the idea of these day's are to celebrate a popular style with a large number of others who also appreciate it. The awareness of the style is there, enough so to cause a celebratory day to emerge.

It gives a sense of "community" when you realize you're drinking a style that probably millions of others are also drinking and enjoying on the same day because of the love for the style! It's just for fun, don't over think it.

    Also, that being said.

I propose National Sour Day to be on May 1st of every year!

It's just a bit of fun. Try not to take it so seriously.

It's a marketing campagne for sure but it sure gives me an excuse to consume IPA/Stout without having to come up with another reason.

Mass marketing is turning into mass niches. Beer isn't going to move itself.

It gives people an excuse to drink craft beer.

I don't understand what you are bitching about. Is it really such a bad thing?

I don't think there's much harm in it man, just for fun. There's an international donut day too, can't wait to see your rant about that one.

In your logic it seems like anything that is well known doesn't need to be celebrated? Sorry Santa, Jesus, Christopher Columbus, uhh Presidents, and Veterans. You are all well known figures, no need to celebrate you guys anymore. (I hope this makes sense, also everybody please don't say anything about religion. It will most certainly be annoying, Jesus was used to reinforce my point.)

I think it's more a day just to appreciate the style, not necessarily dictate what style must be consumed that day. For me it was a great excuse for opening a BCBS I've been holding onto for what seems like forever. Any other day and it just wouldn't feel right.

I have no idea about the origins but it just gives me a great reason to celebrate and tell other friends to try a new style of beer. Especially for my non craft drinker friends!

Well, maybe it just promotes solidarity between stout drinkers.

Of all the pseudo-holiday's these days, you pick these two to complain about?

Just wait till Hallmark gets wind, then you'll have to suffer through the radio ads, the cards, the display at Target, and people at work wondering why you're not wearing black for national stout day.

Celebrating two of the heavy hitters in craft beer I guess. Let's keep this on the down low. We don't need the Secret Service to know about this.
