Two different beers correct? More hops in a DIPA. Imperial Pale is a monster with a good hop kick.

    Thoughts? Advice?

Imperial pale ale? I'm going to go ahead and assume that's imperial ipa, and there is no difference.

DIPA is a jacket up IPA while Imperial Pale Ale is a jacket up pale ale. Now, Troegs Perpetual Imperial Pale Ale seems a lot like an IPA to me, but, hey.

Eh, whatever is it good? It's all that counts. Ephraim is a PA, at a very high ABV, terminology is at the discretion of the brewer.

OP, both Imperial Pale Ales and DIPA's could be either malt forward or hop forward.

The difference between Imperial Pale Ales and DIPA's is essentially an arguement of semantics. Same can be said for regular Pale Ales and regular IPA's vs. eachother and the two you mentioned. Some Pale Ales are more hoppy and flavorful than some IPA's. An Imperial Pale Ale could drink a lot like a DIPA. etc...

It really just matters what beers you like, not what they are labeled.

No clear and cut guidelines here, same with Posters and Stouts. Brewers desecration.

I was told a Double/Imperial pretty much meant the same thing...more hops...higher abv. hey, i could be wrong.

I agree with your response, and auto correct did a number on you.

You are correct, OP was talking about Imperial Pale Ales (not India Pale Ales) but what you said goes for both.

LOL, I didn't notice, auto correct is as much a minus as a plus sometimes.

One has secret ingredients insuring optimal enjoyment. The other doesn't. Once you're in the club you'll know which is which.

Stuff. Things. Opportunities. i.e. You OBVIOUSLY have too much damn spare time on your hands when you actually worry about this kind of CRAP.

Feeding the troll here, but... you really took the time to reply?

DIPAs, in their current iteration, tend to push the citrus aromas and flavors, while Imperial Pales push hop bitterness, in flavor and aroma. It really depends on your choices, your palette, and how much damn spare time you have on your hands.

Well if we're going to be saying "session IPA" we might as well start saying "imperial pale ale", right?

In reality, these names are all up to the brewer.

Semantics. I like hoppy beers, that's enough for me. What's in a name?

    Nonsense.

    It's all marketing.

It's like arguing what the difference is between Cascadian Black Ale and a Black IPA. Other than one being an oxymoron the only difference is what the marketing department thought would go better with the brand/market.
