I'm pretty sure this is case in most places. The Tap House here in San Jose repeatedly sells "pints" that are easily 3-4 ounces short. "This is the way pints are traditionally poured, but I'll top yours off...this time" was the response I got when I called the bartender on it. That was my last time there. I had the same problem with that at SJ's popular hipster beer bar downtown. The keg ended about 3/4 of the way up my glass and the bartender essentially said "close enough...that'll be $7.50". Also my last time there.

The idea of it isn't bad at all. But when the bartender shoves my used glass up into the tap and rubs it around the glass, it seems a bit unsanitary.

Yeah but to nitpick - that frost turns to water... in your beer.

Not my experience at all. I ran down there solo on a Saturday last fall and shot the sh*t for a few hours at the bar with strangers and the bartenders. FFF gets a bad rap sometimes, but I've always had good experiences at the brewpub. Only negative experience I've had was when what'shisname was an ass to me on here without warrant.

I've had mostly good experiences there, but I'm talking about the music level. Not really a boisterous hang out, party kind of bar, which is when loud music is most appropriate. And I think it can be a bit serious and somber there even when the service is good.

Why is a female bartender assumed to be clueless and a male bartender assumed to be knowledgeable?

And people wonder why the craft beer crowd in general could get a reputation for being pretentious....

New breweries that have these fancy looking taster glasses that serve no function but to make a solid pour impossible. It is a taster glass which will allow me to sample a handful of your beers in order for me to decide what I want to order a pint of, I do not need anything fancy!

Also, breweries that don't do tasters or they have their specific flight which you cannot deviate from, brewing and drinking are about options!

    Noise.

If you can't have a conversation or order a drink without yelling, it's too loud.

Don't really enjoy those people that stand at the bar, receive their order, and then continue to stand there while others wait behind them trying to order.

There's a clear difference that is noticeable. For example, at a regular place the server might notice you and spouse are both completely out of beer and then apologize profusely and then pretend to sort of hurry to the computer to place an order. Then there's the other one I had in mind, where they see you've eaten nearly all of your entrée with no beers whatsoever and it's no big deal to them, because hey, you're lucky they serve you at all.

There was a local bar that had this same issue..Finally got it fixed up but took a complete remodel to eliminate the issues. Which BTW were horrible .

If a bar has craft beer as a selling point, then I expect the staff to have some knowledge of the beer. They don't have to be level 100 beer wizards, but they should be able to describe most of the beers and make a recommendation.

Actually I think it's the other way around for many of the examples in the thread. The problem for beer bars is that most of us do actually dine at regular restaurants and such where many of these issues are less common, especially the easily fixable ones like service and other staffing issues mentioned above. Even more so for those of us who go to wine bars, and wow it's like night and day with the various issues being right at wine places but somehow incomprehensible to the owners and managers of beer bars.

I absolutely hate it when any business acts like they are doing me a favor by serving me. That's the one thing that will drive me away from an otherwise solid business.

Yeah I hate bad service at any place I go. And I'm a pretty reasonable customer. As long as the server puts in a good effort, is reasonably friendly and polite, and fixes any problems that come up, I'm good to go. I'd say 99 percent of the service I get is decent to excellent. But that other 1 percent burns my ass.

Yup. My three main hobbies (cycling, beer, and music) have a few seriously snobby assholes and I choose my patronage accordingly. I'd rather go to a faceless chain store and be served by a friendly person who doesn't know much than be talked down to or ignored by some elitist dick in a cool indie establishment.

    - Not showing your prices on the menu
    - Not showing the amount of beer you get (8oz, 10oz, 12oz, 16oz, 20oz, etc.)
    - Cash only establishments
