i live by a bar that doesn't believe in brewery tap handles. They have 32 taps that all are the small black handle. They also don't believe in hiring knowledgable staff. Many times I ask for one beer and get another.

Right back at you. Always asking myself who are the folks that just shut up and put up with all of the crap that a lot of these places make their customers experience. Thanks for identifying yourself. You tolerate frozen mugs. You tolerate inaccurate menus. You tolerate a bunch of cleaning smells. Let me guess, bad service and bad lines are no big deal too, because that was a big chunk of this thread so far.

Hey, to each his own. But a big part of the reason why these problems still persist is because there's people out there who just take it anyway.

Pushy bartenders or sales people. i hate being asked what beer i want 5 seconds after walking in to a place. um, you have 400 beers give me a fucking minute already.

expensive appetizers. um, 10 dollars for an ap? that's not an ap but an entree. get me some real appetizer options.

uncomfortable bar stools or chairs. i want to sit back and relax instead of worrying about breaking your cheap ass ikea furniture.

also, for beer bars, have at least one "sure thing" on tap. i don't know how many times i've gone to a beer bar only to see a huge list full of c quality beers and the best thing they have is a run of the mill deschutes black butte or stone IPA. i mean, seriously, if you have variety at least make it quality variety. variety for the sake of variety isn't fun for anyone. quality first!

Patrons who endure all of the problems mentioned in this thread, and then complain about it when others complain about these problems.

Frosted mug for your IPA? no problem
    Dirty lines? no problem
    Bad Service? no problem
    etc.

If I had to guess, your backwash adds more moisture to your beer than the infinitesimally small amount of moisture in the inside of a frosty mug...

Black Butte and Stone IPA?.........Pretty "sure things" in my book!

Exactly but when your tap list is 40 beers long I would hope your best beer isn't simply a stone IPA or black butte porter. What's the point of 40 beers if the best beer you have is a beer I can buy a six pack of for nearly the price of a single pint at a bar?

Couldve been the proximity of the speaker to your table. Feels like we were right under it at the end of the bar, near the "beer to take home" counter

Any bar that does not have the exact preferences I prefer when I go to a bar.

The frost is water. May as well throw an ice cube in there while you're at it. It doesn't matter right?!?!

My biggest pet peeve? A local bar is tapping KBS tomorrow at 3 pm. So I have to take off work to try the damn beer?

    Dumb.

If feasible, I do as well. I love it when the server tells me "we don't have that" & sure as hell they do. I honestly thin the average waiter or waitress just looks at it all as generic beer unless you are lucky.

Beer is too flipping expensive to have it watered down due to this stupid practice. I do wish it to taste as the brewer intended.

I don't ask much when I go out. But once you've seen things done by people who give a damn about their job, you kind of expect that as a standard. Acceptance of low standards from the customer just leads to more mediocrity.

    .

I believe you're re-wording your original complaint. In your original post, you were asking that a bar "have one sure thing". You then went on to mention two beers that I consider to be just that.
I think what your trying to say is that you wish they would have at least one 'awesome thing' or at least something less commonly available.

At any rate,I know what you mean.
    Cheers!
