I have 2 kids under three and my wife stays home to take care of them...I feel your financial pain! In the last 3 months I started getting REALLY into craft beer and have definitely had trouble not going overboard on beer spending. There is so much out there to try...and don't even get me started on all the limited release stuff and festivals/events every weekend. I'm extremely lucky to to live near Chicago, so there is a Pipeworks release every week on top of all the other regional and national stuff we get.

I'm hoping to find a balance soon and get involved in enough tastings that my purchasing can dial back a bit.

I usually stock up a bit, and then wait until I start running low to buy more again.

The part that pains me most is that my wife can't drink at the moment! She loves beer as well!

My beer collection has crept up slowly over the past 6 months - I drink about one a day on average, maybe a bit less, but seems I buy more. Now that I've filled my cellar to the brim, have taken over nearly the whole bottom shelf in the main fridge, and have a few bottles in warm storage I've now reduced myself to ONLY buying a max of 4 bottles of the most exciting seasonal releases until I get things under control again.

As previously mentioned, there is no way to chase every interesting release. There's just too many. What I do is stick to a couple of your absolute favourite breweries and ignore the rest until you have the space. Another thing to stay away from if space / budget is limited is trading - things can get carried away quickly with that!

Sounds like we are in the same boat, 32 years old in Minnesota with a big time beer overload problem and a girl that is constantly reminding me that we aren't married yet. I hate rushing into things though....it's only been 8 years with her  Not to mention that I have 8 trades on the way.

This has been my mentality over the past month, even though I still find myself on the hunt every now and then. Good advice!

Hah - yeah we are only 2 years in, but its a sure thing for us. Plus her older brother is a bigger beer geek than I am, which makes it a family-match too.

To celebrate the birth of his kid a week or so ago we cracked a Dark Lord and a Supplication.

IPAs don't stand a chance lasting more than a few days in my fridge. Stouts however can bottle up overtime. The trick is to man up and do work son.
