First time having this one, having passed it by for a few years now. What a mistake that was, this is really tasty. If it wasn't for the talk about Celebrator on here I most likely would have continued to pass it by, but then I started noticing that Swedish craft beer bloggers claimed that this was the same beer as celebrator only rebranded which lead me to look it up. So the WBAYDN images of celebrator definitely lead me onto this gem. It has such a nice maltiness and roastiness, without being candy sweet. Sweetness is there for sure, but there's also a nice bitterness to balance it.

Had an awful, awful beer night last night...

First, it was this totally undelicious, sucky, 5-day old Bear Republic Racer X at dinner...

...Then met up with a local BA for a small IP trade and he rudely shared this crappy vinegary sour from yet another crappy California brewery:

...Finally ended the night with...O the horror!!! This ridiculously bad, 1-hour old stale, unpalatable brand new DIPA from this local brewery no one knows about:

    :grinning: Cheers!

At first I thought you were serious because a group of us had Racer X and were not impressed in any way.

After the bock it's time for something lighter, say a 0.3% Christmas ale by Mikkeller. Brewed with malts, raw sugar, hops, orange peel and coriander seeds. What you mostly pick up on though is orangey hoppy notes, some bitterness and surprisingly balanced malt backbone, with a slight after-sweetness that reminds me of sweetened tea. Despite that slight afternote of sweetness it's overall dry as can be expected of a 0.3% beer, and I think it would work well as a Christmas eve drink. It would cut through the fat and the richness of Swedish christmas fare whilst being light bodied, yet still having a malt body due to the darker malts (and possibly the dark raw sugar addition) and having a refreshing hoppiness and bitterness. Not bad for a non-alcoholic beer I say.

I wouldn't go out of my way to look for it, but it was decent. The Racer 15 is much better.

This is a Swedish Christmas classic, mumma. There's alot of different recipes for it but the one I'm used to drinking is made from porter, dark lager beer, sugary soda (basically carbonated water with sugar and some citrus flavoring) and crushed Cardamom seeds which are left to soak in Madeira wine over night. All of it mixed together. For a less sweet taste the emphasis will be on the beer mixture, with a healthy dosing of Madeira wine.

This is the commercial version of it, a very sweet dark lager with a strong taste of cardamum. In the homemade versions I've had the cardamum is less dominant and held back by a stronger presence of the porter and the wine, which makes for a less sweet and more balanced taste. Still this commercial version is really tasty, but I will admit to being a big fan of cardamum in crisp rolls and the likes.

No drinking for me yet.. But I suspect a lot of drinking will happen during my visit to Firestone tomorrow.
